Wedding Photography is such an import at aspect of your wedding, finding the right photographer to capture your day is one of the biggest decisions you will make when it comes to wedding planning. When I first started in the wedding industry 14 years ago there was a good mixture of film and digital wedding photography, so much choice and so many amazing photographers working in both mediums. Well today I have invited Steven Duncan from Sven Studios onto the blog to talk about the resurgence we are currently seeing in film photography, what makes it so special and why it is perfect for a Boho wedding.

In the rapidly changing world of technology, where digital innovations constantly shape our lives, there’s been a monumental shift in the realm of photography. This shift was so dominant that it led giants like Kodak, once a titan in the analogue film industry, to file for bankruptcy in 2012. However, the winds of change are blowing yet again, and this time, they’re bringing back the charm of yesteryears.

Film photography, once thought to be on the brink of extinction, has been experiencing a renaissance. One particularly captivating arena of this revival is wedding photography. With more and more couples seeking authentic, timeless memories, film photography is getting a fresh lease of life.

Ball Gowns: A Tale of Grandeur and Grace

Ball gowns are the stuff fairy tales are made of. Characterised by a fitted bodice and a voluminous skirt, these dresses make an undeniable statement. They often come with layers of tulle or crinoline to achieve their signature fullness. For brides seeking that classic Cinderella feel, ball gowns are an ideal choice.

While ball gowns are undoubtedly stunning, they best complement brides with a pear-shaped body. The voluminous skirt effortlessly balances out broader hips, lending a harmonious silhouette. Additionally, those with a rectangular or straight figure might find the ball gown style advantageous, as it can create the illusion of a defined waist. However, petite brides might feel overwhelmed by the grandeur of ball gowns, making them appear shorter.

A-Line Dresses: Versatile Elegance for Every Bride

A-line wedding dresses are renowned for their universality. They are named ‘A-line’ due to their resemblance to the letter ‘A’. These dresses taper at the top and flare gently towards the bottom. The balanced silhouette offers a blend of sophistication and simplicity.

The beauty of A-line wedding dresses lies in their ability to flatter almost any body type. Their cinched waist defines the narrowest part of the torso, creating a slimming effect. The gradual flare of the skirt can accommodate wider hips, making it a favourite for brides with pear or hourglass figures. Moreover, tall and slender brides can benefit from the elongating aspect of A-line dresses. Paired with the deep blue hues of tanzanite jewelry, this look exudes timeless elegance.

Amanda and Kristian’s Vintage Inspired Outdoor Wedding in Canada by Cottage in the Woods

Today we are heading back a couple of months to August of this year, as I take you to Canada for the gorgeous vintage inspired wedding from Cottage in the Woods Photography. The wedding was actually sent to me by the bride Amanda. I love it when the wedding comes from the couple themselves, as it’s clear to see that they are fully invested in it and love the outcome of all their hard work. This wedding is full of vintage charm, as Amanda and Kristian have taken inspiration from the 1930s and 1940s. This wedding looks like so much fun and Amanda and Kristian look so in love.

Elegant and Classy with a 1930s/40s flair. Vintage and laid back.

Amanda and Kristian were married on 4th August 2023 at  The Gathered – Kathryn, Alberta in Canada. ‘We have become family friends with the owners. We originally stored our travel trailer on their property long before they became a wedding venue. We had 55 guests and it took 18 months to plan.’

Boho Pins: The Best of Boho – ‘Boho Chic’ Wedding Ideas

Boho weddings have been around for quite some time now and it’s no surprise that we love them here at Boho HQ. When I started the blog back in 2009 boho weddings were a lot more niche, these days they are super popular and you can see many different elements of boho scattered all around the wedding world. It doesn’t matter what kind of couple you are, whatever your vibe there is a ‘Boho’ for you. From ‘rustic boho’ to ‘country boho’ ‘urban boho to ‘Boho Chic’ which is what I am looking at today. Boho Chic is what I would call ‘fancy’ boho. It’s not as laid back and hippy like as your pure 100% Boho, it has more structure to it, more detail and more finesse. So today I have picked out 10 of my favourite images form past styled shoots on the blog, I hope you like my selection.
