Emma and Glenn’s DIY Tipi Wedding. By Eliza Boo

I do love a Tip wedding! They offer so much freedom for any couple, a true blank canvas to do what you like with and really put your own stamp on you day! Todays couple Glenn and Emma did just that and chose a Tipi wedding so they could add their own personality to their day. They chose vintage inspiration and added in touches of pastel and a whole lot of DIY details to make the day their own. Big thanks to Eliza Boo for the images.

‘An unforgettable, truly magical day that was everything and more we could ever of hoped it to be. Those words only scratch the surface!’

Emma and Glenn were married on the 8th August 2014 at St Marys Church, Cambridgeshire. Tipi Tent , Cambridgeshire. We fell in love with the tipis by simply browsing through google images for alternative wedding venues.  There were 140 guests in total and it took 10 months to plan.

How they met
A holiday romance with a twist… Who says holiday romances never last? haha! We met in Malia in 2007 at the hotel bar that I worked in. Glenn was holidaying.

The proposal
Out of this world! Glenn is such a romantic bloke and he didn’t disappoint. Paint the picture… 5 Michelin star restaurant, new years eve, a huge manor barn, open fire, wellington boots waiting outside the front door, a muddy walk into a stable, a sparkling wicker heart in a massive haystack, a secret champagne picnic hamper hidden behind. All with our baby boy right there, 4 months old and sitting on Glenns knee whilst the other was on the floor as he proposed.

How did you allocate your budget
I think it is impossible to have a budget. I just continuously shopped around for the best deals and did plenty of haggling.

Why did you choose your photographer
I found Eliza boo Photography on a wedding blog and fell in love with her work instantly. Her quirkiness was exactly what I was looking for.

The Dress
The dress was by the Barcelona designer Pronovias. Shoes were from Office so that I could wear them again and the only jewellery I wore were earrings which were a bargain buy at Tesco!

The suit and bridesmaids
Suit was Topman/Hugo Boss which was completely tailored. Bridesmaids were a last minute buy from French Connection as they decided against the vintage ones I had already given them about 4 months before! Not stressful at all…..! Lucky for them they were my sisters!

The theme or colour scheme
No colour theme, just all things pastel and vintage.

Flowers
I had an array of wild country cottage flowers, a mixture of colours and a big variety.

Decoration
We didn’t decorate the church to save money (which we are so pleased about as it was beautiful enough). We filled 35 jam jars with the same flowers as my bouquet on the previous day. They looked beautiful and every jar was unique as lots of our family and friends helped out so did them all in their own way which turned out great.
We hung artificial white posy balls and tea cups around the tipis, smothered the whole place in bunting and honeycomb lanterns, it was exactly how we wanted it to be.

Food and Wedding Cake
Canapés and Pimms on arrival. A very informal afternoon tea for the wedding breakfast and a good old hog roast in the evening.
My amazing friend Sarah Bond made our stunning cake!

Entertainment
My Friend Sheena Mchugh sang during the day and we had a 4 piece male band for the evening called the Eskimos. Both were amazing and had so many compliments

Buy or DIY your Stationery
It was all completely DIY.

Handmade or Personal touches?
We made all the save the dates, invites, menus, name places, table numbers, seating plan, outdoor signs etc. I absolutely love getting crafty so I was in my element planning our wedding! I wish I could do it every week.

Special moments
When the vicar announced us as husband andwife, I felt that all my dreams had come true! I wobbled through my vows and couldn’t believe how lucky I was, it was overwhelming. I now shared the same name as my Son and Father of my baby, how much better does it get.
Sitting on the top table and watching every single one of our family and friends mingling on the long tables and enjoying themselves was a moment I’ll never forget. I have got Goosebumps writing it.

Biggest surprise of the day
How everything came together, the hundreds of phone calls, emails and meetings actually worked!!
How my husband and I spent most of the day together (as people told us you don’t get much time together but we tried to stick by each others side). We had the best time at the best party we have ever been to and we feel so lucky to say it all happened on our wedding day. I wish I could wedding plan for a job!

Advice to other couples
Go with something a bit different and be daring, after all you only do it once so make it one to remember. I would totally recommend a DIY wedding, I wouldn’t change a tiny thing. Our tipis were a blank canvas to do whatever we wanted to.
