Tahia and Trevenn’s Three Dresses for a Three Day Wedding in Canada by Vanilla Cloud Photography
Some weddings I get to feature on the blog are simple, understated and often minimal....

Today’s wedding takes us back to nature with this gorgeous Tipi wedding. The couple wanted as natural a wedding as possible and with the decoration, flowers and venue they certainly achieved this. Working to a budget they brought in a fish and chip van to cater the food as well as the bride’s sister’s handy baking skills. They also carried out a lot of DIY projects for the decoration and stationery. The whole day was captured beautifully by Sansom Photography.
Vicki and Scott tied the knot on the 24th August in front of 70 guests at St Olave’s Church in York. They then went on to celebrate with nearly 100 friends and family at Papa Kata on private land. “We were lucky enough for Vicki’s sister to offer the use of her land – a beautiful farm on the outskirts of York.”
How they met
We had been together for just under 9 years when we got married – met at 17 and 19 years old in our home town!
The proposal
On a beautiful, cobbled lane covered in fairy lights in the old town of Talin, Estonia.
How did you allocate your budget?
Blew the budget on the Papa Kata and saved on catering by hiring a fish & chip van to feed our guests! Sister made all of the desserts.
Why did you choose your photographer?
Really lovely young couple, who had the same ideas on what makes a great photograph as us. Relaxed and unique photography.
The dress and accessories
Vintage ’60s dress; Rachel Simpson Shoes; mum’s jewellery mixed with Accessorize; Grandma’s brooch on my bouquet bound with twine.
The suit and bridesmaids
Groom’s suit – Hugo Boss
Bridesmaids – Simply pastel dress from Warehouse
Flower Girls – BHS
The theme
Touches of mint/pistachio; natural/outdoor feel
The flowers
The most beautiful selection of wild flowers from a local grower – each table was unique and each bouquet was completely different.
The decoration
Wildflowers in mix & match vases/jars picked up over the previous year at the seaside -The Papa Kata tipi was so amazing we didn’t need to go over the top. Fire Pit; beautiful lighting, chill out area with comfy cushions and reindeer skins – perfect for relaxing under after dancing until 5am.
The food and wedding cake
Fish & Chips for lunch, huge cheese/meat boards with bread in the evening; Sister’s home-made desserts – lemon & lime cheesecake. The wedding cake was a victoria sponge decorated with daisies and ribbon (made by Vicki’s sister)
The entertainment
Fantastic acoustic guitarist – Rick Whitehead – through the day and he also played our first dance. We created our own play list for the evening – all of our favourite songs from the last 9 years together! Goody bags for all of our nieces and nephews
Buy or DIY your stationery?
DIY stationery using natural materials and touches of mint/pistachio
Personal or handmade touches
– Collected buckets of wild flowers from the local farm and spent the whole day with bridesmaids filling old bottles, jars and vases
– My sister transformed an old ornate book shelf with photos of family, candles and beautiful flowers.
– Made our own name places with tiny badges from the two charities that we donated to rather than buying favours – Overgate Hospice and children’s Heart Surgery Fund.
– Sister made amazing desserts and used vintage cake stands to display them for people to help themselves
– Made signs with our nieces from old pieces of wood to direct people to the venue, toilets etc
Special moments
Dancing with our nieces and nephews; spending time with family on the vintage bus from church to venue; dancing with friends until 5am watching the stars through the roof of the Papa Kata; Snuggling under the reindeer skins once everyone had left
Advice for other couples
Don’t panic about the weather! That was our biggest worry before our DIY, outdoor wedding… it ended up raining most of the day and it didn’t make any difference at all!
Biggest surprise
We were blown away by how amazing it was to bring everyone that we love together and their happiness at being part of our big day.

I flippin love this one!! Just so so perfect. I also now feel very reassured after reading the advice. I am getting married in my parents garden (hiring a pagoda/Chinese hat marquee) and go through stages of having anxiety dreams/mild panic attacks about the rain ruining everything. What will be will be! :) Also where did you get the paper cups from? We’re using paper cups for evening guests to reduce the hazard of broken glass and the ones you used are lovely!
Lovely pics.. some really nice touches and her dress totally rocks!
