Today is a sad day on the Blog for me as it is Boho Bride Laura’s last diary entry. Laura is getting married 2 weeks tomorrow in Sheffield and I can’t blooming wait! I am going to be there on the day as her on the day co-ordinator, in fact we have our final walk though at the venue on Tuesday to go through all the last minute logistics. It’s gong to be an amazing day, at the moment we are both doing a little sunshine dance, and praying that it doesn’t;t rain (or snow!)
So for her last Diary Entry Laura is going to be be telling us about the stag and hen do’s, her wedding advent (why has no one ever thought of this beofe , its an AMAZING idea) and the last few bits and bobs of jobs to be done.
My last post… so exciting and yet quite terrifying at the same time! If you are reading this, then it means we made it. After 20-odd months there are now just 15 days to go until I’m a married woman. The wife. Mrs Parker.
Oh that’s got a good ring to it.
So here’s what we’ve been up to recently:
A couple of weekends ago we had our respective stag and hen do’s. Both in Sheffield we let our bridesmaid/best man plan the entire Saturday then prearranged to all meet up at night for a massive party. We share a lot of friends so it only seemed right that we got to celebrate with everyone regardless of sex/gender.
So the girls all went on a run in brilliantly garish lycra on Saturday morning, followed by afternoon tea and cocktails and silly games. My bridesmaid arranged for us to have a two-hour burlesque dancing lesson which was so much fun, and then we finished off with tapas, cocktails and clubbing ‘til the early hours.
The boys went clay pigeon shooting and for a pub lunch in the Peak district then after an afternoon with the beers in front of the rugby caught us up for some drinking and dancing!
I was amazed at my lack of hang-over so hosted Sunday Brunch for everyone the next morning, the same can’t be said for the stag however; who couldn’t eat a bite…
Another thing that we’ve enjoyed recently is ‘wedding advent’. It feels as though on the 13th April all of my Birthdays, Christmases, Easters and Valentines will come at once! What are the greatest things about these days? For me, it is the immediate run up. The Advent Calendars and wrapping of gifts, the new things in the shops, the planning secret surprises and hiding gifts from their recipient until the day itself.
So, I created a Wedding Advent calendar. Not so much a calendar but an installation in our flat. Every day in the last month of wedding planning we’ve opened a package/looked at a note together for which I had planned a joint gift or activity. So far there’s been chocolate (obviously), a fancy dinner, socks, silly joke toys, books and a few extras.
On the last day we’ve pinned up cards for each other to read before we dash off to the registry office, and then we will give each other gifts to open on the morning of the wedding the next day.
It’s definitely making this the best time of my life so far!
So, I’ve had my final dress fitting and can’t wait to collect my dress next week. It will be everything in my power not to do a Monica and sit in it in front of the telly!
Chris’ suit is pressed and has a new pocket square all folded and tucked inside – thank you Daniel Craig for showing us how it’s done. We need to get an extra hole put in his belt as he’s lost a bit of weight (humph. I thought I should be the one supposed to do this?!).
The bridesmaids have their dresses and shoes and some cute cardigans, and I have bought a fabulous feather shrug for any signs of a grey day. Let’s face it, right now that’s looking very likely!
I’m just about to write up the table plan and then all that’s left is bake some cakes and sit back and get even more excited. Oh, I have a marathon to run next weekend but I’ll make sure I have a spare cake on standby for afters. Good job I’m booked in for 4 hours of pampering, pummelling and polishing afterwards too!
A big thank you to Kelly for having me on her lovely blog. I’ve learnt so much from reading it and not getting sucked into the ‘what you must have’ mentality of some wedding magazines. Kelly has been a voice of reason to all my worries and questions and I’m so glad I have her to coordinate the whole day.
I’ve been trying to think if I have any advice to give to other brides doing their planning but it is so hard to think of something concise and eloquent when really a wedding is a massive beast to contend with!
Thanks so much for the lovely words Laura, it has been an absolute pleasure having you on the blog and following your planning journey.
