Lauren and Tony’s ‘Springtime Pastel’ Laid Back Rustic Scottish Wedding by The Gibsons

Happy Friday everyone, and how are you all today? I’m pretty excited for the weekend, I don’t have a huge amount planned as I have a couple of REALLY busy weeks coming up, so I’m trying to keep things as relaxed as possible before the madness begins! What about you? Any wedding plans? or weddings to go to?
We are finishing off the week with a trip to Scotland, as we take you back to May of last year for the gorgeous rustic day of Lauren and Tony. The ceremony and reception take place in a barn type marquee, and it’s filled with pretty spring time flowers in an array of pastel colours along with some gorgeous rustic decor and detailing. I just love the ceremony backdrop, the hanging flowers are so pretty! Thanks to The Gibsons for the gorgeous images.

It was laid back, relaxed and fun. Everything was perfect

Lauren and Tony were married on 20th May 2017 at Eden Leisure Village in Cumbernauld. ‘We decided to get married there because the venue was exactly what we wanted for a laid back outdoorsy wedding. We had 140 guests and it took about a year to plan.’

How they met
We met on a night out for a mutual friends birthday in 2010.

The proposal
We had travelled to Marrakech for a holiday. When we arrived at the hotel, Tony had arranged for “Will You Marry Me?” To be written on the bed in rose petals. It really caught me by surprise, as much as we had been discussing getting married I didn’t expect the proposal to happen then!

How did you allocate your budget?
Thankfully my Dad paid for the wedding so we didn’t have a budget as such, but we did try to be sensible.

Where did you splurge and where did you save?
I got my dress handmade to a custom design which actually ended up being cheaper than buying one off the rack from a bridal shop.

How did you choose your photographer?
Our photographers The Gibsons were amazing. When I first looked at their website we fell in love with their natural style of photography, it was exactly the style we were looking for. Also when we met them they were so lovely I knew they would be amazing on the day and totally put us at ease. We loved that because there was 2 photographers, Chantal could take the pictures of my bridesmaids and I getting ready and Scott was able to capture photos of Tony and his best man and ushers getting ready.

The dress
My dress was made by Dragonfly Dress Designs – I cannot recommend them enough. My dress has now been donated to Cherished Gowns UK – they turn wedding dresses into gowns for stillborn babies. My shoes were customised by Middo Shoes – these were one of my favourite things, I got them painted to look like our cat Maurice! He wouldn’t of made a good ringbearer so I had to have him there in some way!

The suit and bridesmaids
The suits were from Slaters in Glasgow and the bridesmaid dresses were from For Her and For Him website. I was really nervous to buy the dresses online but they were exellent quality and really reasonable prices.

Theme or colour scheme
We had no set colour scheme. The best man and ushers bow ties matched the bridesmaids but for the rest of the colours on the day (for flowers etc) we just went with springtime pastel colours – i don’t like when things are too matchy matchy!

Flowers
The flowers were all a mixture of seasonal flowers in pastel colours. One of the prettiest things was the flower curtain that we had on the arch for the ceremony. Our flowers were by the wonderful Betty Bluebell

Decoration
We kept the decorations simple. The marquee we had the reception in almost looks like a barn inside, it would of looked amazing even with no decor. I added extra hay bales, bunting and barrels. For our card box we used a vintage leather suitcase that my Dad found in an antique shop in Glasgow – we now use it as a memory box to hold all the cards and mementos from the day.

Food
Barbeque! Our catering was from Regis Banqueting. It was brilliant. Lots of burgers, sausages, kebabs and veggie options.

Wedding cake
Our cake was a 5 tier ‘naked’ cake made by Claire Cameron. It was so beautiful looking and really tasty.

Entertainment
For the ceremony, drinks reception and the meal we had a guitarist/singer Jamie Button who was brilliant and for the reception we had the amazing The Banjo Lounge 4.

Who supplied the stationery
Norma and Dorothy

Personal touches
We didn’t DIY anything! We arent very good at arts and crafts haha. I would like to think the whole day and the general atmosphere reflected who we are as a couple.

Special moments
The ceremony was a big highlight. We wrote a good chunk our the ceremony ourselves and our humanist Andy McSorley (caledonian humanist association) was fabulous. Honestly, the whole day was amazing. It was so relaxed and fun.

Advice for other couples
Don’t stress! Everything comes together on the day and it goes by so fast so enjoy every minute.

Biggest surprise of the day?
I was surprised how much I enjoyed having the pictures taken! I normally hate getting my photo taken. But I think that was all down to how at ease Scot and Chantal put us… and the beer probably helped!
