Today I am taking a little break from all the wonderful Christmas content to bring you this delightful wedding in Italy. Petra and Andreas were eventually married in May 2021, after having to postpone and scale down their original plans. The results are this intimate wedding for 20 set against the gorgeous Italian backdrop at Masseria Baroni Nuovi. The wedding has a beach theme, with a colour palette of soft creams and blues, a gorgeous outdoor ceremony and a cosy evening reception. Big thanks Andrea Antohi for the gorgeous photos and to the wedding planner Simona Mapelli.
Petra and Andreas were married in May 2021 (originally planned 31.05.2020) In Masseria Baroni Nuovi. ‘Our first vacation together has been in Puglia in 2015… and we fell in love right away. We originally invited 40 guests, but the pandemic forced us to keep the party intimate, so we ended up with 20 family members and close friends. We started in autumn 2018, but then we had to postpone, so lots of time to think and rethink about many things and get in personal regular exchange and contact with our wedding-planer, photographer and others, some still real friends today.’
How they met
We met by internet dating, and we have been together for 5 years. Growing together as a patchwork family has been of great importance to us.
The proposal
Andreas proposed on the beach in Florida on St. George island. We sat down in the sand with a glass of champagne but we were soon a delicious dinner for the moscitos, so we ran into the beach cottage and danced cheek to cheek to “Perfect” by Ed Sheeran.
Where did you splurge and where did you save?
Food and drinks to please our guests and ourselves have been important to us as well as music, which always makes the heart of a party. We saved on decorations doing some things ourselves or letting natural decorations like surroundings work.
The outfits
As having a destination wedding in Italy I wanted my dress to be Italian. So I have chosen an ivory gown with lace and soft English netting from Eddy K., being completely adapted to new ideas during the pandemic by a gifted team of the tailor shop of Friedrun Schlagbauer in Würzburg. The accessories like a tiara, an English netting shawl and the shoes were in the colours of the “ sea and sky” .
The suit had the colour of the beach, the bridesmaids were dressed up in the light blue colour of the sky, all kids as well as the groom had boutonnieres with a a real shell with a pearl
Theme or colour scheme
The colour scheme has been : the colours of “the sea, the beach and the sky”. The topic has been “Puglia represented by its land and sea”.
Flowers
The flower arch has been white and green, mainly white roses, lisianthus and hydrangea, the bouquet had blue hydrangeas as well.
Decoration
The table decoration also contained shells collected from the beach on St. George in Florida, olive branches from the Masseria, lots of white candles and lisianthus combined with a soft light blue English netting as table runner symbolizing “terra e mare in Puglia”- “land and sea in Puglia”.
Food
We started after the ceremony with all kind of antipasti in the olive garden with dancing with pizzica music, then we had as sit down menu underneath the portico with two different pasta dishes (homemade pasta with tomato sauce and burrata and pasta with shrimps), then fried fish with crispy potatoes and vegetables
Wedding cake
We had a berry cheese cake and a buffet of all kinds of sweet treats
Entertainment
Marco Corsano and his classic team performed during the ceremony, my favourite song has been “Gabriel`s oboe”- very moving. Then we had a pizzica group for the reception and DJ Mino Castagnano to dance the night away.
Honeymoon
Our original plans to spend a week in Saint Petersburg have never been realized due to the pandemic and later the war situation, but we had a few relaxing days in the Austrian mountains together.
Personal touches
Collecting shells for our decoration on the beach, on which Andreas has proposed was one of many personal touches. We wanted everybody to feel relaxed, homey and also cheerful after being “imprisoned” for such a long time due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Special moments
Our personal vows as well as our family sand ceremony have been very emotional moments for us, but also dancing the night away under the Puglian stars was magic.
Advice for other couples
Just enjoy! Hold each others` hands and enjoy the magic! Don`t be upset if things differ a bit from original planning. Enjoy the moment!
