Destiny and Nick’s Modern Boho California Wedding with Accents of Terracotta by The Olive Bungalow

I just love today’s wedding. It is super stylish and filled with Modern Boho decoration that fits in beautifully with this super cool venue. Destiny and Nicholas chose The Woodshed for their California wedding as it was perfect for their whimsical yet modern wedding day. The venue with it’s wood panelling and hanging plants speaks for itself, it is so unique and full of style. They mirrored the venues interiors with soft creams, browns and a mixture of terracotta to amazing effect. Destiny added her own stamp with her hand made macramé wall hanging, which works perfectly as a ceremony backdrop. I just love this wedding, it is right up my street, modern with a mixture of Boho, wedding perfection! Big thank you to The Olive Bungalow for the fab photos.

The most perfect magical day to celebrate and declare our love for each other. A culmination of our whole relationship and drawn out planning process came to a head at last.

Destiny and Nicholas were married on 20th November 2021 at the The Woodshed in Vista, California. ‘After seeing the venue for the first time we knew we didn’t need to look any further. The vibe was perfect and fit us so well! We had 75 (ish) guests and it took 2 years to plan (due to pandemic rescheduling)’

How thy met
We have been together for just short of 11 years. We met through a mutual friend at a house party! Never looked back. Fun fact Destiny invited me (Nick) on a snowboarding trip with her siblings the next day after we met. They thought she was insane.

The proposal
We hiked about 12 miles to a secluded lake in Mammoth, had a little lunch when we got to the top and had a quick dip in the freezing water. As we were relaxing I threw up my drone, got down on one knee and asked the love of my life to marry me.

How did you allocate your budget?
Venue and photography were the most important and what we figured were going to be the most memorable aspects years down the line. Everything else beyond that just kind of fell into place thanks to a lot of recommendations and insight from Anndrea, our coordinator(Peaches2Poppies).

Where did you splurge and where did you save?
We splurged on a few extra details and desserts as we hadn’t initially planned on many of the extra little things so it really felt like we were saving on everything in the end which was the goal. Overall we had a fairly stripped down rustic feel with a lot of really great accents and details that just perfectly tied it all in together. One area we ended up splurging on last minute was to ask Katrina & Jordan to put together some small clips of the night which they delivered so much more than we had imagined, what they delivered perfectly recreated the feeling of the day and allowed us to relive the moment over and over.

How did you choose your photographer
So much research, chatting and looking over portfolios but once we met Katrina and Jordan and had a demo with them we knew immediately. Not only are they rock solid people and so much fun to be around, they are SO talented and work seamlessly together. They were a highlight of the wedding!

The dress
The dress was Made With Love & the accessories were Gorjana and an heirloom necklace passed on by Destiny’s mom. The shoes were no name shoes.

The suit and bridesmaids
The suit came from Friar Tux and the bridesmaids were from Birdy Grey

Theme or colour scheme
Theme was boho whimsical Terracotta seaglass and neutrals for colour scheme.

Flowers
We left flowers in the hands of our coordinator Anndrea (Peaches2Poppies) who also acted as our florist. She did such an amazing job!

Decoration
We mostly leaned on the venue’s atmosphere which had a plethora of hanging plants, a plant wall and repurposed wood panelling. We also had minor hand painted details from our coordinator Anndrea (candle holders, vases etc) Our altar macramé was handmade by Destiny in the months before the wedding. We also had a large chalk wall that’s a part of the venue that we had a calligrapher create a graphic for. It tied everything in very well.

Food
Mexico City cuisine, we had Tacos rice and beans we went with a buffet style as opposed to a menu.

Wedding cake
Brown Sugar pound cake with brown butter frosting

Entertainment
Dancing & DJ Tony Barto

Who supplied the stationery?
Minted & Costco

Where did you go on your honeymoon?
We took a short honeymoon in Austin Texas with plans to take a longer trip abroad later on.

Personal touches
Destiny made the altar macramé piece by hand and used some driftwood she collected years prior with the intention to use it for something special. We got a custom made neon light with our last name as well as a custom made wood card box.

Special moments
Getting ready with our wedding parties was the perfect morning and prequel to our first look which was such an amazing moment, we exchanged our vows during our first look as well. Watching Destiny walk down the aisle was my favourite moment of the entire wedding. Taking time to take our photos after the ceremony was such a high point, Katrina & Jordan made the photos feel effortless and allowed us to focus on the moment.

Advice for other couples
Take it slow, be present in the moment. Don’t let those precious few moments fly by you and become a blur. Expect things to go wrong and be adaptable; when something goes wrong roll with it.

Biggest surprise
We were genuinely surprised at how smoothly everything went. We had no major issues, all of our vendors worked so well together.
