Kelcey and Andrew's Intimate Mountain Wedding in Colorado by Kate Fore

I have another busy day on the blog today, starting with this gorgeous mountain wedding which has been sent into me by Kate Fore. Kelcey and Andrew were married on 18th July 2020 at Deer Creek Valley Ranch in Bailey Colorado. They are both big lovers of the outdoors, so they wanted to keep their wedding as close to nature as possible, reflecting their passion for outdoor living in their celebration. They opted for a mountain venue, which gave them breath taking views and the most stunning of backdrops and lots of super cute DIY decoration.

Kelcey and Drew said their vows to each other in a beautiful mountain ceremony inspired by their love of the outdoors. At 9,000ft, their wedding was literally breathtaking. From mimosas and getting ready in a cabin with stunning mountain views to a bumpy Jeep ride high up in the mountains for their wedding portraits together, Kelcey and Drew’s love for adventuring together in the great outdoors was present in every detail of their day.

How they met
We met rock climbing in our college’s outdoor club. After 7 years of adventures and dating, we took a trip to Europe to climb the Matterhorn in Switzerland. Drew proposed on the matterhorn at the Hornli hut the night before our summit push.

The outfits
My maid of honor and I stumbled into a wedding dress shop on Black Friday and I left with my dress, for $250. I wasn’t sure what I wanted, but I knew I wanted some type of mauve as my bridesmaids colors. The dress I found was actually blush and the perfect fit into the color scheme I was hoping for. If you would have told me I was going to get a semi fitted, pink wedding dress I would have never believed you! I’ve never been one for heels, so I got wedged Birkenstock sandals in a rose gold hue to match the cool blush tones of my dress. Drew wanted to keep it less formal and avoid a full suit in the heat of summer so we had him wear navy pants and a vest and his groomsmen wear navy pants with a shirt and suspenders. Drew wore a tie and his groomsmen wore bowties.

Theme or Colour scheme
When we asked ourselves what we wanted for our wedding, the most important thing for us was to married surrounded by our favorite people in our favorite place- the mountains. We wanted a simple venue that allowed everyone to stay and be together for the whole weekend, and we found just that at Deer Creek Mountain Camp. Everyone was able to stay on site and we were able to make the wedding exactly what we wanted it to be. Our color pallet was shades of mauve and cool blush tones. In our ceremony we included the traditional breaking of the glass while the guest shouted “Mazal Tov!”

Decor
We kept the decorations simple and let the outdoor mountain scenery do most of the work. All the decor was DIY including the florals and greenery. The ceremony space was in a beautiful aspen grove so all we added were a few flower arrangements made with the leftover flowers from our bouquets and hung Tibetan prayer flags on the arbor. For dinner, we did white table cloths with dark grey runners and napkins, greenery runners with mountain or live edge center pieces. The reception area and bar was outside, so we had very little decorations, and the dancing hall was so unique it also didn’t need many decorations.

Flowers
Our florals were all DIY! The flowers and greenery were delivered to the camp Thursday afternoon and on Friday my bridal party and I along with help from my day of coordinator and family assembled our bouquets, and decorated the reception space with greenery runners down the tables. We had to wait until day of to place the arrangements by the arbor so the deer wouldn’t eat them. The boutineers were made out of climbing rope and we added some greenery and babys breath behind it for a little more detail.

Personal touches
Drew’s cousin married us, and we really look up to his and his wife’s marriage so it meant a lot to us. My cousin played guitar as I walked down the aisle and my other cousin did my hair and makeup. All of our family pitched in to cook meals for the weekend. The entire weekend happened because of the people around us and that made the entire weekend that much more special. I had charms of both my grandparents on my bouquet so they were with me as I walked down the aisle and both my mom and dad gave me away. I snuck a picture of Drew and his late Mom into the chest pocket of his shirt under his vest so she was with him the whole day. We didn’t get a picture of the reveal (I forgot to tell anyone I did it) but it was a special moment between us when I told him to check his pocket. We wrote our own vows to personalize the ceremony.

Special Moments
Seeing drew as I turned the corner and walked down the aisle, saying our vows, and hearing the speeches from our best man, maid of honor, and both of our dads.

Advice for other couples
There will be points that are stressful, but try to keep it fun! This is a fun time in your life and you want to look back with happy memories of it. In the weeks leading up to the wedding, we had a lot of things that didn’t go according to planned, but in the end we got married and spent time with family and that was what mattered most.
