Gavin and Kate’s rustic, laid back barn wedding with loads of handmade details

What can I say about todays wedding other than I am totally in L.O.V.E with it! I have to admit I love a rustic wedding, and even more I love a wedding in a barn, so thank you so much to Theresa Furey  for sending it in.

The lovely couiple are Gavin and Kate who were married on 2nd September 2011 in the thatched barn at The Fleece Inn, in Bretforton. They met at University in 2003 and were close friends until they finally got together in 2008.

Their wedding has so many amazing elements, so much tenderness between the two of them, and so much love between them and the guests. the whole wedding is very calming and gives off a relaxed feel when looking at these gorgeous pictures. I am total love with all the DIY elements that Kate has pulled together, from the personally grown pot plants that were given away as wedding favours, the hay bails, the hessian tabel runners, the jam jars……..it’s all just perfect and Gavin and Kate look so gorgeous together!

Venue
It is somewhere we both enjoy going for a drink and food. We loved the barn as it is small, intimate and very relaxed It had the outdoorsy, rustic country feel that we wanted and it suited all the details and ideas that we had for our day. We loved the orchard outside of the barn and we were so lucky with the weather as the sun shone all day.

Dress
It was Abaco by Pronovias. Straps were a must and sparkles were a definite no!

Suit
Nothing too fancy as we wanted it to look casual. They were Topman Suits for Topboys!!

Theme
We didn’t stick to a colour scheme, our flowers were wild flowers and were a mixture of colours. A good friend of ours made the bunting, and another friend made hanging hearts to match and the materials we chose were a mixture of pinks, blues, reds and creams.

Personal touches
Personal touches were really important to us as we wanted our day to suit us as a couple.
-We bought all the material for the bunting and hearts, and luckily we have creative friends who can sow, so they made them for us.
-We collected all the bottles and bought the straws and drink buckets for our welcome drinks as we wanted something a bit different.
-We collected lots of jam jars and tied raffia around them for our table flowers,
-We also potted our own flowers for the favours.
-A friend made our Hessian table runners and napkins which made the table setting look very rustic alongside the flowers in the jam jars and the potted flower favours.
-We also purchased the hay bales as outdoor seating to add the country touch.
-In the evening we had lots of candle bags, and candles in the trees to make it look welcoming. ‘Something blue’ were my sandals instead of the more traditional garter.

Special moments
Seeing the Barn and orchard for the first time with all our decorations up, it looked so pretty. Being announced Husband and Wife! We loved setting off the chinese lanterns in the evening, and having a good boogie with all of our chums! We also enjoyed an after hours drink together back in The Fleece Inn after all of our guests had left, it was a lovely end to our day. Opening our cards over a lovely breakfast in the inn the following morning was also very nice!

Planning advice
Take a couple of minutes away from the guests with each other to take it all in. It really does go so quickly. We were in the same venue all day but one of the cars stuck around until after the ceremony and took us for a ten minute spin, it was nice to be alone for ten mins after the ceremony. Use herbs in your flowers. We had rosemary in the bouquets, buttonholes and table flowers and lavender tied to the napkins, it made everywhere smell so nice! Put lots of effort into personal touches and make the day yours.
