Today it’s the turn of our very own Kelly with husband Paul to grace the pages of the blog. As you know when Kelly isn’t working here at Boho Weddings she works as a wedding photographer with her husband Paul at Paul Joseph Photography. It’s always a treat to feature their work on the blog as I truly believe they are one of the best photography duos in the business. Todays wedding is a beautiful barn wedding, full of hessian details and DIY projects. A gorgeous wedding that Paul and Kelly have photographed perfectly.
Katie and Alan were married on 7th February 2015 at Crabbs Barn in Essex. ‘We loved the venue and the staff were really welcoming and accommodating. We had 85 guests in the day and around 130 in the evening. The wedding took about a year to plan.’
How they met
We met through mutual friends 15 years ago and became a couple 10 years later
The Proposal
Alan proposed while we were having dinner at a beautiful beach restaurant called Amante, while we were on holiday in Ibiza
How did you allocate your budget
We made the venue and photographers our priority and then spread the remaining budget between everything else
How did you choose your photographer
We did a lot of research online and came across Paul Joseph on a wedding blog. We loved their style and work so decided to make our way up to Leeds from Hertfordshire to meet Paul and Kelly. They couldn’t have been more welcoming and had the same ideas as us. We knew for certain that they were the photographers for us
The Dress
Dress – Cymbeline Hammy. Shoes, rainbow club. Hair accessory – Anusha. Ring and necklace, Thomas sabo (my wedding gift from Alan)
The Suit and Bridesmaids
Suit Jack Bunneys, bridesmaid and flower girl Monsoon
Theme or Colour Scheme
We didn’t have a theme as such but used hessian and wanted an informal feel rather than a strict theme
Flowers
Lavender and cream roses
Decoration
Hessian, roses and lavender on each table with tea lights in glittered jars
Food
To start we had Chicken satay, Beef Wellington for main and apple crumble for desert. In the evening we had pork baps and wedding cake
Wedding Cake
3 tiers of Carrot, chocolate and sponge made by Katie’s mum
Entertainment
Singer (Zoe Phillips) during the drinks reception and DJ in the evening
Buy or DIY your Stationery
DIY
Personal or Handmade Touches
We made all our save the date cards and invites, glittered jars for tea lights to sit in, made the table plan, wooden heart drop box instead of guest book (made by Katie’s brother in law) cake (made by Katie’s mum and her friend)
Special Moments
Meeting each other at the end of the aisle. The Speeches were fantastic and we loved partying with our friends and family in the evening. Especially the last few dances.
Advice to other couples
Get everything in place nice and early so your not rushing about close to the day. When the day arrives don’t stress, just enjoy it and let the staff at the venue and photographers lead you through the day. Somehow it just comes together
Biggest surprise
How smoothly it went. And how quickly it went.

Lovely tones, looks like terrific atmosphere. The colours are much less gaudy than a typical wedding. I’m adding this to my pintrest board
A very romantic wedding”. That’s what the pictures is saying to me. Congrats to the married couple.
