This whole wedding is super pretty from beginning to end, featuring so many lovely rustic chic details, from the DIY signage to the stunning flowers, every last detail has been thought out perfectly. Kaitlyn and Gregory opted for a natural, earthy feel but mixed that with just the right amount of glam for this soft, relaxed day. Greg and I were married on the 15th July, 2017. I wasn’t one of those girls who grew up dreaming about her wedding, in fact, despite the countless episode of say ‘yes to the dress’ my sister watched growing up, I’d never even seen a dress I liked! I wasn’t too excited about the wedding planning, but I think the location helped focus my efforts. Greg and I live in California now, but our friends and families are bicoastal. We wanted to find a location that was meaningful to us, but could also be accessed by car for our east coast guests. Within a week of getting engaged, we’d decided on Penn Yan – a magical little village in upstate New York where my mom grew up and where I spent a portion of every childhood summer. We have a small family cottage on the lake where we decided to do the ceremony, welcome dinner and after party. For the reception, we chose Crispin Hill – which was an easy choice as soon as we saw how gorgeous it was and met it’s wonderful owners, Heather and Chelsey.

With 150 people coming, we knew it wouldn’t be “intimate”, but we wanted to be sure the event was comfortable and welcoming to everyone. We went with the rustic-earthy-chic feel: lots of green and wood! We found a lot of ideas on Pinterest (thank goodness for DIY and our very creative family members). The family of the groom worked endlessly to create a wide array of wooden signs – they were scattered throughout the weekend and locations. The colors – navy, seafoam/mint, and a touch of blush were decided by pocket squares Greg and I found while traveling last summer. We are loyal elephant fans, and found elephant pocket squares that we knew had to be in the wedding. The men in the wedding – who were all family members – sported them for the ceremony. Our entire wedding party was family, which made things pretty easy and funny. Our 3 year old flower girl pulled her sister down the aisle in a wagon…big muscles! The toddler had excellent comedic timing during the wedding by giggling at every joke the bride’s brother made. He led the ceremony, which was short, non-secular and perfectly fitting to us.

Our vendors turned out to be amazing – particularly the location and food, photographers and flowers. Luckily, Mom still has family in Penn Yan, so she was able to help with a lot of the planning while visiting. We felt so fortunate to work with such wonderful people and to have so many of our favorite people make the trek from near and far to Penn Yan.
