As well as planning beautiful and alternative weddings for people, I also plan events! These can range from wedding fairs, tweet ups to the event I put on a couple of weeks ago, A 21st Birthday Party!
This wasn’t your normal run of the mill Birthday Party though, this was a black tie birthday party set in the parents back garden and one of my favourite events I’ve put on this year!
The mum and dad called me in March to discuss plans they had to put on a party for their daughters 21st Birthday party. They had a few ideas of what they wanted but really needed some clear advice and help with putting it all together.
With the black tie themes, a sit down dinner and a DJ as my foundations to work with, I came up with a Purple and Black theme and got working on finding them the best suppliers to fit the brief!
As they booked me for full planning I had full rain to call in the suppliers I wanted to use and I felt best fitted the brief they and given me!……….heaven for a planner!!!
I have to say I really enjoyed this event, the whole planning of it, the supplier searches as well as managing the event itself!
It really makes a difference from a planner’s point of view starting work on an event right from the beginning! You don’t walk into someone else’s planning and you don’t work with suppliers that you don’t know.
It was a fabulous feeling on the day of the party that everything was under control as I have brought in suppliers that I knew and trusted.
There was of course a huge amount of responsibility because everyone the parents had booked had come from my recommendation!
The party took place in Sheffield in the parents back garden! Their house is just outstanding, but a very warm and lived in home at the same time!
I hired in a 12m x 12m marquee with a covered walkway (just in case it rained) It actually turned out to be a beautiful summers evening, which made the evening even more perfect!
We wanted to stay away from a wedding feeling with the marquee so we used white walls with purple up lighters, a black carpet and full black star cloth ceiling! Which looked stunning. Table clothes were black with purple taffeta runners and matching napkins, finished off with phantom/ghost chairs which looked fabulous, with lanterns and tea lights on the tables for decoration!
The party began at 6.30pm with the door men arriving at 6pm they were given the guest list of 86 guests to check off and to make sure that no one turned up that wasn’t invited!
Welcome drinks were served from 6.30 -7.30 while the guest enjoyed live music in the garden.
At 7.30 they were called into the marquee where the dad made a short speech and then dinner was served! Another set from the musicians which was then followed by the DJ.
It was an open bar all night and the bar company put together 6 signature cocktails, all of which went down a storm!
After dinner a few more speeches and then a slide show of child hood photos (to totally embarrass and surprise the birthday girl!) and then the night really began with the party in full swing and the DJ in his element!
All in all an amazing event, that I thoroughly enjoyed!
