Today I have a super pretty styled shoot to share with you all the way...
Good afternoon everyone, today we are returning to one of my favourite topics, the honeymoon! Whilst the weather has finally picked up here in Sheffield and the blue skies are showing signs of promise, I would absolutely love to be booking a supper break. Somewhere warm, with delicious food and not too far away… Luckily, Tom our resident Honeymoon Expert, has some exciting ideas on honeymoon destinations in Europe for us today. I think my top pick would be Barcelona!
When it comes to romance, Europe certainly does not disappoint. From the cosy coffee shops of Montmartre overlooking the artists’ square and the famous Orange Garden sunsets by the River Tiber to the secluded picnic spots of Amsterdamse Bos and the breath-taking world of Gaudi at Park Güell, the cities of Europe have a lot to offer just-married couples. Need some inspiration? Here are some of the top cities for a European honeymoon or minimoon break.
It’s no surprise that Paris makes it to the top of this list. The City of Love, as it’s better known around the world, is a must for old romantics. Although there’s much more to do than just heading up the Eiffel Tower and going to the Louvre. In fact, this typical romantic city isn’t so typical at all. Get lost in the never-ending streets of Saint-Germain and discover Oscar Wilde’s old haunts, find undiscovered bars and cafés in the hip and happening SoPi, mingle with the arty Montmartrois in their local neighbourhood, or hang out in the galleries of Belleville-Menilmontant.
Architecture and gastronomy come as standard in this beautiful capital. If you love a great mix of city and beach, this is the ideal honeymoon destination. Barcelona also makes a great base for those who want to hire a car and explore the coast. Don’t miss the pretty seaside town of Sitges or the incredible ruins of Tarragona a bit further down. Or for a real taste of Catalan life, spend a few days in Figueres, the home town of Dali. His most famous gallery and museum can be found there.
Not just for bachelors and stags, this hip and happening city is a lot of fun for couples in search of something different. The nightlife speaks for itself – as well as the countless museums and galleries – but you’ll also find some pretty romantic things to do, including canal boat cruises, a stroll through Vondelpark, a secluded adventure in the Amsterdamse forest, or a tour of Amsterdam by night. And for mouth-watering urban eats, a meal of Rijsttafel (perfect for sharing) will surely spice things up.
Croatia, no longer an up and coming destination, but a holiday hotspot for those in the know, is definitely worth exploring if you love great weather, good food and warm hospitality. And for honeymooners, there are fewer places as wonderful or magical as the cultural capital, Dubrovnik. Its coastal location means you can enjoy top beaches and seafood, island hopping and boat trips, as well as an ancient world where you can travel back in time. Make sure you have enough time to fully explore the Old Town and the City Walls, and for the most authentic dining experience, choose one of the many hidden konobas tucked away in Dubrovnik’s side streets – eat by candlelight and share a plate of oysters to start.
If the Colosseum, Roman Forum and other historic sites that evoke memories of our ancient past aren’t enough to entice you, then the food and drink definitely will. It’s hard to find a more romantic honeymoon destination than Rome. Hidden away in different neighbourhoods, you’ll find amazing specialities such as Pasta Carbonara, Pizza Bianca, Quinto Quarto, Carciofi (Jewish style), Bruschetta and Zucchini flowers. Plus, the endless choice of piazzas, both peaceful and bustling, means that you’ll be able to enjoy a different view every night.
