Georgina and Josh’s Donut Loving Wedding with a 1920’s Wedding Dress, by Sasha Weddings

Happy Monday everyone and how are you all today?  I hope you all had a lovely weekend and are now feeling refreshed and ready for the week ahead.  It’s a busy week on the blog, behind the scenes I am busy working with my design and technical team to make sure the blog is all ready for launch next Tuesday.  It’s a busy old-time but it’s so exciting!
To start the week off in style I have this gorgeous wedding brought to you by Boho sponsor Sasha from Sasha Weddings.  It’s a lovely wedding, full of wonderful little touches and a really gorgeous couple. Georgina wears a 1920s wedding dress and looks effortlessly beautiful in it. I am loving the bridemaids outfits, the table plan, the cake topper and all the beautiful flowers. What a stunning day!

‘A relaxed fun day celebrating with friends, family and of course, doughnuts! Just perfect for us’

Georgina and Josh were married on 23rd June 2015 at Watford LDS Chapel and the reception was held at The Red Barn, Blindley Heath. ‘The church was the church that I grew up in, in my hometown, and the reception venue was a barn in Lingfield, as we were looking for a venue near the LDS Temple that was to be part of our ceremonial events on the day. There were 200 guests at the wedding ceremony and 100 friends and family at the reception. We spent about 9 months planning. 3 months secretly planning and then 6 more after we got engaged in January.’

How they met
We met at the church we both attend, and were introduced through friends – who had all been secretly trying to set us up. We have been together for a year and a half

The Proposal
The proposal was on a snowy day in Paris! In a quiet garden on the River Seine (Square du Vert-Galant), beneath a willow tree, Joshua got on one knee and asked to for my hand in marriage. We spent the rest of the day, happily engaged in snowy Paris, running up and down the Eiffel tower.

How did you allocate your budget
We were admittedly on a pretty tight budget and therefore decided to save where we could. We decided on what was most important to us and what was not. And it became clear that some aspects seemed unnecessary so we were able to budget on certain things and spend on others.

Where did you slurge/save
We splurged on shoes, invitations and flowers. We saved on the location as we married on Tuesday. We also had family on hand to help make various things, such as the orders of service, table plan and name plates were designed and hand-written by my sister, Rebekah.

How did you choose your photographer
Through an intense internet search we found Sasha and her work. She had managed to capture the joyous and natural feel of the wedding day through her beautiful photos. And we liked the way she spent time photographing the small intimate moments between guests and family, as well as the bride and groom. She has a real eye for beautiful details and we were so pleased when we met to have shared a vision for documenting the day.

The Dress
My dress was a silk vintage dress from 1920’s, bought from Elizabeth Avey, along with the full length cathedral veil. My shoes were from Whistles.

The Suit and Bridesmaids
We saved money when Josh decided to wear a nice suit that he already owned, which was also much cheaper and easier for the groomsmen to match and replicate. But he did treat himself to a waistcoat from Ted Baker. The bridesmaids dresses were from Zara (shoes were their own).

Theme or Colour Scheme
Being pretty indecisive in all things, we didn’t follow a strict colour scheme. We worked around the colours of the flowers, which were pink, white and purple but mainly wanted the wedding to look light and clean.

Flowers
My bouquet was made up of peonies, gypsophlia and sweet peas. The bridesmaids had bunches of gypsophlia and small bunches in their hair. The floral decoration was a mixture of different wildflowers.

Decoration
We wanted just simple and stylish decoration with a personal touch. Our reception venue had shelves of books and its own personal décor that we loved, and it meant that we only had to add finishing touches, such as a lights, candles, paper cranes and flowers.

Food
Straight after the ceremony we ate Krispy Kreme doughnuts with drinks. Then at the reception we had a BBQ buffet of grilled chicken, handmade beef burger and salmon, with accompanying sides and salads.

Wedding Cake
The wedding cake was a beautiful naked cake of three tiers, two of Victoria sponge and one carrot. It was decorated with sprigs of lavender and a name cake topper. We ate it along with a tower of cheese, cream and fruit.

Stationery
We sent our Save the Dates that we hand stamped ourselves with a stamp from Poumi. The invitations were designed and printed by Avenue Litho. The rest of the stationery was designed and hand-written by my sister Rebekah Kwok.

Personal or Handmade Touches
The aspects of the wedding that I was most proud of was the personalised stationery and calligraphy work that my sister and I designed together and the polaroid wedding guest book that everyone loved, of course!

Special Moments
Highlights of the day was riding the life-sized cow ornament outside the Red Barn as a married couple.

Advice to other couples
With planning, I would say, go easy on what people expect at weddings. As long as you make it your own and have fun, no one will miss the sugared almonds and frozen cake tier. Weddings are supposed to be a fun happy day, so take time to relax and absorb the best day of your life.

Biggest surprise
The biggest surprise was the decoration – due to the early start of our day we weren’t able to see the work that our florists had done at both the church and the reception, as well as the decoration done by the team at the Red Barn. But it was all a beautiful surprise! We loved their work and were grateful for everything they did.

That cake looks so good. The lavender gives it such a fresh look. I was pleasantly surprised that the bridesmaids looked stunning in creamy shade dresses. Not something most of the brides would go for, but this looks just great.
