We are half way through the week already, I do hope you are having a good one so far? Today I have another stunning wedding for you, a gorgeous summer wedding, complete with marquee, flower crowns and lots of handmade decorations. Gemma and Matthew were lucky enough to be able to use Matthews’ dads land for the wedding, they held both the ceremony and reception there in a beautiful marquee. With a gorgeous dress and her bridesmaids dressed in white Gemma looks absolutely stunning, all topped off with a beautiful flower crown. What a lovely day captured perfectly by Mark Newton Weddings
Gemma and Matthew were married at Stainton Way- Stainton which is Matthews dad’s home. They were legally married at York Register Office. ‘We wanted a personal and beautiful outdoor wedding and after many months of searching Mark’s place (Matty’s dad) just seemed the perfect place. As Matty is part of a large catholic family the wedding had to be much larger than we expected. But we wanted everyone we loved there so it was worth it! 120 in the day and another 40 on the evening. We used Pinterest a year previous just to get a feel for the things we really wanted. But we really only seriously started planning it 4 months before.’
How they met
We met on a night out in Middlesbrough and we have been together for 7 and a half years.
The Proposal
Well it was on my birthday and I had been out all day on my teaching placement. As soon as I got through the door he blindfolded me and lead me into the living room. When he took off the blindfold he was knelt down in a suit with the ring. The room was filled with candles and ‘cooked’ I mean frozen chicken Kiev and burnt roasties. Top marks!
How did you allocate your budget
The thought about what we really wanted for the wedding and it was free alcohol and our favourite band Cattle and Cane. We just wanted everyone to enjoy the day.
How did you choose your photographer
We knew we didn’t want posed photographs as that’s just not us, so after MANY hours searching online we stumbled across Mark Newton. We loved his work and hit it off instantly- he just got us!
The Dress
Dress shopping wasn’t at all what I thought it would be. I know I didn’t want a normal wedding dress and it’s just not me. I knew I wanted something backless and white loose. I seen a couple of French styles I like and I took the designs to a local wedding shop ‘Laura Day’ and she saved the day! She merged the two designs together and it was more than what I ever could have asked for. I wore my grandma’s wedding ring and some metallic flip flops so I could dance the day away!
The Suit and Bridesmaids
Bridesmaid dresses were from Mango.
Theme or Colour Scheme
We just wanted to keep the theme simple and beautiful so we mainly used summer inspirations.
Flowers
I LOVE, love Peonies and was so desperate to have them in the wedding and I was so pleased that they bloomed in time- I loved them
Decoration
Most decorations were handmade. From the bunting to the table numbers and signs. All hands on deck
Food
We wanted an Italian style buffet so we feasted on lamb curry, lasagne, cannelloni and beautiful salads. I also asked family and friends to bake delicious treats for the day
Entertainment
We had an amazing local band called Cattle and Cane.
Buy or DIY your Stationery
Me, my beautiful bridesmaids and mother in law all handmade the stationary.
Special Moments
I loved all of the day- from getting ready upstairs with my bridesmaids (including my sister in law) to getting married and dancing the night away with my husband and friends.
Advice to other couples
Use Pinterest as it’s amazing! Other than that we just sat down and talked about what were the most important things to use and we decided on making the day as relaxed and fun as possible, so that’s what we focused on. Enjoy it!
Biggest surprise
Biggest surprise of the day were probably the speeches, there were some amazing stories and very embarrassing times, mostly what the best man brought up! Hilarious!
