Honeymoon Ideas – African Honeymoons 3 Ways to Go

African Honeymoons

It’s cold and snowy out so what better time to be thinking about your honeymoon, jetting off to somewhere walm and sunny seems like a dream come true at the moment, so today we are here with our resident travel expert to give you some ideas on where to spend your honeymoon. Last month we looked at 5 of the best Luxury honeymoon spots, today we are looking at Africa.

Africa is a magical continent offering an astounding range of possibilities for a newlywed couple to enjoy.  This post will cover three of great honeymoon options on offer, including an adventurous safari, a beach holiday or a cultural trip among the Pyramids

I’ll pass you over to Tom our resident travel writer………………

Safari in Botswana

Heading off on safari in Botswana offers several choices.  Couples can choose between staying at a luxurious safari lodge, head off on a mobile tented safari through the African bush, or enjoy an Okavango Delta safari, out on the water.  Whichever option is chosen, there is a superb range of wildlife on offer, with less crowds than other safari options available in Africa, along with the very best honeymoon accommodations.

Staying at a lodge like those offered by Signature African Safaris, the package mostly includes all meals, safari activities and park fees.  Lodges have lounges, dining rooms and bars for refreshment and relaxation, along with swimming pools to cool off after a hot day on safari in the bush.  Luxurious tented or chalet accommodation offers everything a newlywed couple could need.

Heading out onto the water on an Okavango Delta safari offers the chance to glide silently on the water in a traditional dugout canoe, viewing the wildlife literally at eye level.  The guide will point out the terrapins basking in the sun, a fish eagle perching on a tree, making its iconic call, colourful kingfishers swooping down to the water to feed on the tropical fish swimming in the beautifully clear surrounding waters.  Along the way, see elephants happily splashing themselves and buck enjoying a refreshing drink.

Honeymoon

Beach Holiday in the Seychelles

As a sharp contrast to the heat and dust of the African bush, the islands of the exotic Seychelles offer gorgeous, white sandy beaches, waving palm trees and warm, turquoise waters.  While this archipelago consists of more than 116 islands, most are uninhabited and many are now dedicated as nature reserves.  Still more of the islands offer a resort holiday or honeymoon of a lifetime.

Among the most popular destinations, Mahé offers beautiful beaches, dense forests and national parks.  Praslin is a popular tourist destination offering several resort hotels and lovely beaches, including Anse Lazio and Anse Georgette.  Also on offer are tropical forests where birds like the Seychelles Black Parrot and Seychelles Bulbul can be seen.  The Vallée de Mai Nature Preserve is a beautiful visit with its unique flora, including coco de mer (unusually shaped sea coconuts) and beautiful vanilla orchids.

La Digue is another popular island, accessible only by ferry.  As with all the Seychelles, the island has beautiful sandy beaches.  The island offers hiking trips into the Veuve Nature Reserve, where the rare Black Paradise Flycatcher can be seen. The island has several guesthouses and hotels on offer and boat and diving trips are available to enjoy the clear turquoise waters.

Honeymoon

Cultural Trip to Egypt

Honeymooners are spoiled for choice on a cultural trip to Egypt.  There’s the traditional Egypt visit to the Nile Valley to view the iconic Pyramids, the noble Sphinx and the Valley of the Kings, or the temples of Karnak and Luxor.  For a romantic evening, visit the Abu-Simbel temples at night to experience a sound and light show, with music and narration, telling the tale of Egypt during the time of Ramses the Great.

For a mix of the seaside and culture, enjoy the pristine and beautiful coast of the White Med with its typical resort feel, loads of water sports and other activities.  There is still plenty of culture and history on offer in the area, with Pompey’s Pillar in Alexandria and the site of a major World War II battle in El Alamein.

The Red Sea resorts are the perfect option for those seeking a honeymoon by the sea, with gorgeous sandy beaches and crystal clear turquoise water, perfect for sun-bathing, diving and other water sports.

Whichever the choice, the honeymoon suite will offer a welcoming bottle of bubbly, some lovely fresh flowers and every good wish for the future.
