A few months back now I went over to Derby to meet with Julie from Vintage and Cake. Julie is one of many lovely suppliers I have made friends with through Twitter so it was great to meet her in the flesh.
It was lovely meeting Julie and she told me all about how she got the idea for Vintage and cake and why Vintage was so important to her!
I have always loved everything vintage and will always wear at least one item of vintage everyday… I make sure of it. I think this love was inspired by my lovely Gran who always did everything ‘properly’
she looked fabulous and I remember she would wheel a trolley into the living room laden with cakes, a steaming teapot, china, homemade truffles and just lovely things; nothing was ever done by halves in the Fairweather house that’s for sure.
My love of baking comes from both my Gran and my mum, I always baked as a little girl, creating different cakes and then of course scoffing them. I must admit I lost it a bit whilst in Uni as I was just too busy and didn’t have the kitchen for it but it came back with a vengeance once I had finished. I adore creating amazing cakes and icing them with different designs, I don’t know what it is but I am obsessed and will look at pictures of cakes for hours… sad hey!
So vintage and cake was born and it is exactly that… vintage and cake, simple. I thought I would combine my two loves into one decadent business.
I had the idea for Vintage and Cake in my mind for about 2 years and when the opportunity came along I knew it was the right time to turn my passion into a business.
Vintage and Cake hires out vintage tableware and offers a styling service for vintage afternoon tea parties and sells delicious home baked cakes, from the classic victoria sponge to an elaborate celebration cake. All the cakes are made with free range eggs, we know they are free range as they roam free in our back garden.
Individuality is very important to me so every one of my customers will have the chance to come and chat to me about their ideas, whether that is for a vintage afternoon tea party, a piece of clothing or the cake of their dreams for that special occasion, I like nothing more than sitting down with a cup of tea and having a good chat about vintage and cake.
I love the whole concept and I really think Julie has come up with a great idea. vintage is so in Vogue at the moment, so the ideas are really limitless in terms of what you could do with her services.
In terms of the vintage Tea party’s think, Birthdays and Christenings, Hen Parties and Anniversarys, you could even put on your own tea dance?
And as for the cakes, Julie is happy to make anything from a classic Victoria sponge, to cup cakes, to Birthday cakes to wedding cakes, you can even have a cake topper made.
