Today we are taking you back to the summer when the sun shone and the nights were long with this gorgeous home spun Cotswolds wedding. Charly and Dimitri were lucky enough to hold their wedding in Charly’s parents back garden, which not only saved them loads of money but also made the day hugely personal to them and gave a really laid back feel to the whole celebrations. They created loads of home-made projects which added to the personal element of the whole day. A wedding full of sunshine and love and some lovely photos from Adam Riley Photography.
Charly and Dimitri were married on 18th July 2015 at Charly’s parents’ house in the Cotswolds. ‘It is a special place for us as a family. We had 120 guests in total and it took us 9 months to plan.’
Where did you splurge and where did you save
Splurged on the yurt, the band and the photographer because these were the important to us. Saved on the food and the cost of a formal venue/corkage etc. Made our own stationary.
How did you choose your photographer
Charly was a photographer and her bridesmaid IS a photographer so this was the most important element. We found Adam through an Oxfordshire photographer and really liked not just his photographs, and how he captured the real day, but also his manner and personality. It was like having a friend around, and yet we barely noticed him taking photos. Amazingly, he travelled all the way from Manchester to be with us.
The Dress
Dress and accessories by Georgina Pimm Bridal in Witney. Shoes (both pairs) from Kurt Geiger
The Suit and Bridesmaids
Suits from Moss Bros, bridesmaids dresses from Coast.
Flowers
Simple bouquets and buttonholes from florist Earthworms & Dandelions and my mum made big vases herself.
Decoration
Simple decorations from IKEA and online stores – the yurt was spectacular by itself.
Food
A pig roast with baskets of salads, fresh bread and crushed roast potatoes followed by eton mess.
Wedding Cake
Made by a friend of Charly’s mums from the Women’s Institute
Entertainment
King Pleasure & The Biscuit Boys and a mix made by a friend of songs suggested by guests when they RSVP’d.
The Stationery
We made our own – Charly used to run a creative agency and is handy like that.
Personal or Handmade Touches
The whole wedding was one big personal touch.
Special Moments
Getting married at Oxford Registry Office felt like a surprisingly big deal. Having a garden ceremony with all of our guests in Charly’s parents’ garden. Sneaking off to get some time by ourselves as the light was starting to fade.
Advice to other couples
Don’t get het up worrying about your guests, they’ll have a great time. Spend money on the things that matter to you, not to others. And be prepared for it to flash past. Savour the rare moments that you have to yourselves, and create them during the day.
Biggest surprise
The atmosphere of genuine love and fun. We’re so glad that we didn’t go to a venue because it really felt like a day for us and our friends and families to celebrate informally and get to know each other. People flew in from 3 continents and yet it felt like they’d all known each other for years.
