Being a local girl to Birmingham, I am a big fan of Digbeth and all its quirks and urban beauty. Fazeley Studios is a little hidden treasure behind two big, beautiful, blue doors and I can see why Danielle and Andy wanted to have their wedding there! Today’s wedding, with photography by Murray Clarke is an explosion of colour, check out the multi-coloured bridesmaids, and one heck of a gorgeous couple. It looks like they had a ball from the minute the day began to the very last dance. I love Andy’s face when they are having their first dance too, a picture of loved-up-ness if ever I saw one. If it’s cloudy where you are today, this will surely brighten your spirits.
Danielle and Andy tied the knot on 31st May at Fazeley Studios in Birmingham. They were married in front of just over 100 guests and it took them seven months to plan their big day. “We were looking for somewhere a bit quirky and different and loved Fazeley’s urban location. We knew it would make the perfect backdrop for the colourful, vibrant wedding we wanted.”
How they met
We met while I worked in the local pub; we had known each other for a while before Andy asked me on a date…6 years later he proposed.
The proposal
I had been out for the evening with friends and had asked Andy to pick me up (disturbing his romantic plans). When we arrived home I thought the house was on fire but it was in fact candles, they were scattered about the house and Andy had pinned up the words ‘will’, ‘you’, ‘marry’, ‘me’ which led to the ring.
How did you allocate your budget?
We knew the majority of our budget would go towards the venue, photographer, entertainment and videographer so we tried to save money on the other things by doing as much as we could ourselves.
How did you choose your photographer?
We knew we wanted someone who knew the venue as it’s such a unique place and we found Murray whilst searching wedding photos taken at Fazeley. We loved all his work and thankfully he was available!
The wedding dress and accessories
My dress was Pronovias and veil Ronald Joyce both from ‘The Wedding Club’ in Edgbaston, Birmingham; their brilliant seamstress added the (removable) cap sleeves to my dress. My shoes are Guiseppe Zanotti and my hair vine was a bespoke piece from an independent seller on Etsy.
The suit and bridesmaids
Andy’s suit was from Moss and the ushers were from Next. The bridesmaid dresses were from R&Z dress world.
The theme
We really wanted the wedding to reflect our tastes and be a bit different and fun. We both love colour and our home is full of it which led to us deciding on our multi-colour theme.
The flowers
My bouquet had cerise roses, orange gerbera, yellow fuscias, green orchids, blue delphinium and purple lisianthus. Bridesmaids had the same but a lime green AYR bloom instead of an orchid. For the table we had a variety of foliage, pink peonies, purple lisianthus, yellow gerbera and green hydrangea.
The decoration
We decorated with multi-coloured pom poms and on the tables we had painted jars with a variety of flowers in which we did ourselves.
The food and wedding cake
Starter was a caramelised onion and goats cheese tart, main was chicken supreme with herb crushed potatoes & leeks and desert was a chocolate fondant with cream. The evening food was sausage, bacon and fish finger baps with chips; we also had a sweet and cake table.
The wedding cake was 3 tiers, chocolate, lemon and vanilla all covered in butter cream and hundreds and thousands.
The entertainment
We had singing waiters for our wedding breakfast entertainment and a DJ and photo booth for the evening reception.
Buy or DIY your stationery?
We saw the design for our invites online and then got my cousin to create a version we could get printed through an online printing company.
Personal or handmade touches
We did all the decorations ourselves to save money. We made the pom poms, place names, table plan, table numbers, favours and painted the jars. We also went to the local flower market to get all the flowers for the tables.
Special moments
No particular moments we loved the whole day it was just perfect!
Advice to other couples
I would say to go with your gut and have your day the way you want it, many people doubted our ideas but it all came together in the end and they loved it!
Biggest surprise
The biggest surprise for the majority of the guests were the singing waiters, we have seen them at a few weddings before but they are just brilliant and so entertaining. We could watch them again and again!
