Charlotte and Stuart’s Sunny Village Wedding with Lots of Homemade Details. By Source Images

I am delighted to welcome back Source Images to the blog today with this super cute Village wedding which is brimming with homemade and DIY touches. It is set in the village that the bride grew up in, and has all the things I love about English weddings! Sunshine (yes we did get some last year!) hay bales, DIY details and a couple full of smiles!…. Perfect!

Charlotte and Stuart who were married in September at St Peters Church Soberton, Hampshire. The reception took place in a marquee on the Church Green. ‘Soberton is the village that Charlotte grew up in. We had 120 day guests with an additional 30 evening guests, it took 8 months to plan, we loved planning the wedding but didn’t want it to dominate life for too long! Having a relatively short time frame just helps you to be decisive!’

How they met
We met in 2004 on a giant waterslide whilst at a mutual friend’s birthday party

The proposal
We decided to make the most of a dry crisp winter day and set off for a long walk. As we walked out of the village we live in, we stopped at a bench which is in the middle of a field with lovely views. Stuart popped the question and once I’d said yes he produced champagne flutes and a bottle of vintage Veuve Clicquot. I hadn’t noticed the rucksack and goodies he was carrying!

The dress
My dress was by Justin Alexander. It was the first dress that I spotted when I initially embarked on browsing wedding dresses on line. I couldn’t get it out of my mind and instantly felt more ‘me’ in it than in some of the other dresses I tried on. My shoes were LK Bennett. I went for non-bridal shoes as I was keen to have something beautiful that I would enjoy wearing again in the future. My necklace was a gift from my parents; it was vintage from John Lewis.

The suit and bridesmaids
The suit was hired from Moss Bros. The bridesmaid dress was from John Lewis.

Theme or colour scheme
We didn’t have a theme, the wedding just evolved. Our colour scheme was coral and dark blue.

Decoration
We had giant ribbon chandeliers hanging from the ceiling of the marquee. The edge of the dance floor was lined with topiary trees. We created a reception area as you entered the marquee which was furnished with a hay bale sofa and crate coffee tables. Hay bales were used to create seating areas around the Church green.

Food
Local ham with mozzarella and roasted tomatoes
Leek and bacon mousseline stuffed chicken with pesto roasted vegetables.
A trio of desserts
Bacon sandwiches in the evening

Entertainment
We had an amazing live acoustic duo ‘Danny and Sean’ who are part of the ‘Who What Wheres’. Our guests loved them! The dance floor was full all evening!

Flowers
We selected flowers that were in season and in keeping with the colour scheme. Hydrangeas, dahlia, agapanthus, vuvuzela roses, hypericum, echinops.

I tried to make as much as I could for the wedding. We wanted it to be as personal as possible but also wanted to try and keep the budget for the day under control.
• We designed the Invites, order of service, table plan and signs and had them printed by a local printer.
• We could only use biodegradable confetti in the Church yard so decided to use dried flower petals. These were dried by friends and family. The petals were placed in handmade paper cones which were hung on washing lines in the porch of the Church.
• Instead of having a guest book, we produced little post cards for guests to write messages on. These were then pegged to strings within a free standing frame.
• I made napkin rings; blue fimo hearts threaded on coral cord. These then doubled as bracelets/necklaces for guests!
• Place settings were origami boats with the name written on the sail.
• Favours were brown envelopes containing sweet pea seeds.
• We collected and decorated hundreds of jam jars. These were used to hold tea lights or as vases on crate coffee tables
• My Dad is a picture framer so we made the most of his talent. Table numbers were framed wooden blue numbers on coral paper. The Table plan was framed and popped on an easel. We created an 8 x 4 ft photo board which was covered in open frames for guests to stick their head through and pose for photos.
• I made a display of giant coral pin wheels for guest to pose with. These didn’t quite work on the wedding day as there wasn’t enough wind. They looked great the day after!
• I made two giant ribbon chandeliers to hang from the ceiling of the marquee

Special moments
It was all incredible. Being surrounded by our fantastic family and friends was really special.
The whole day was relaxed from start to finish; our guests really seemed to enjoy the day as much as we did. It made all of the planning worthwhile.

Advice
Try and be as organised as possible before the big day. Ensure that everyone involved in the running of the day has detailed instructions to follow so that you can relax and just enjoy the day.
