Kim and Peter’s Dreamy and Magical Forest Wedding in Oregon by Lindsay Blair Photography

Happy Wednesday everyone, I hope you are all doing well and enjoying the week so far. I am off on holiday today for a week, which I am very excited about! We are off to Devon for ‘Gone Wild Festival’ I don’t think there will be much rest and relaxation going on! I might need another holiday by the time I get back! I will be leaving you with lots of lovely wedding content while I’m away starting with this beautiful cozy autumn wedding that took place at Loloma Lodge in Oregon. Kim and Peter held an intimate wedding where they brought their love of the outdoors inside with a gorgeous sage green and terracotta colour palette. The whole day was warm, magical and totally them, all captured to perfection by Lindsay Blair Photography.

All our favourite people in one place making some of our favourite memories in one of the most dreamy and magical locations!

Kim and Peter were married on 25th October at Loloma Lodge, McKenzie Bridge, Oregon. ‘We had heard about the venue from a family member, one of those, “I saw this venue and it reminded me of you guys!” This was well before we were even engaged, but it was always in the back of our minds. When it came time to picking a venue, we searched for something similar that was closer to our home state of Michigan, but we couldn’t find anything that gave us that same dreamy and cozy feeling as Loloma. We both have always wanted a destination wedding, and we thought this venue was perfect for us. We had 28 guests. Since we were really set on a fall wedding, we planned the entire wedding in about 4.5 months!’

How they met
We met at a mutual friend’s wedding; we had been together for 4 years when we got married and now have been together for almost 7 years.

The proposal
We were on vacation in North Cascades National Park and had spent several days hiking and camping. We decided to tackle Cascade Pass and Sahale Arm hike and had been crossing some pretty rough terrain and snowfields for most of the morning which made the surprise at the top all the more rewarding. At the top of our hike, Peter proposed to Kim while she ate a PB&J sandwich, she of course, said yes.

How did you allocate your budget?
We allocated the most amount towards the venue, the photographer, and food. We were also very set on having a wedding planner/day-of coordinator since we were planning from out of state, and we’re so grateful for that decision!

Where did you splurge and where did you save?
See above for what we splurged on. We rented our centrepiece vases and also bought and shipped decorations and extra stuff (table runners, boutonnieres, light up foam sticks for dancing) to our planner who is based out of Bend, OR. We made and printed our own signage and packed some odds and ends into our luggage for the flight out. I think that all saved us some money in the long run and also gave us some special things to keep as memories (e.g., the wooden sign from our head table is now on mantle at home, and we bought vintage glass goblets for the head table and still use them on special occasions at our house).

How did you choose your photographer?
We looked up wedding photographers in Oregon and came across Lindsay’s website. Not only did we love the look and composition of her photos, but Lindsay is also down-to-earth, funny, and adventurous, all qualities that we were looking for in a photographer to capture our special day. We had gotten a lot of advice from our friends and family during the wedding planning process, and one of the most common tips was to make sure to choose a photographer that we get along with since we’ll be spending so much time with them, and we hit the jackpot!

The dress
Dress: Justin Alexander, Cowboy Boots: Tecovas, Hair Accessory: Belonged to my late mother-in-law and was handed down to me.

The suit and bridesmaids
Groom/Groomsmen Suits: The Black Tux, Bridesmaid Dresses: Birdy Grey

Theme or colour scheme?
Theme: Dreamy and magical forest wedding, Colour Scheme: Sage green and terracotta

Flowers
When I had gotten in touch with Tracy from Woodland Floral, I gave her a few inspo ideas (natural/organic style, combo of dried/fresh flowers, incorporation of feathers, darker oranges, fresh greenery, other fall shades), but overall I gave her creative freedom. I had looked at some of her work online and trusted her!

Decoration
Besides centre pieces/table runners, most of the decorations were minimal. Our wedding planners were able to create a cozy lounge area at our reception using some of the furniture from Loloma’s main cabin.

Food
London broil with demi glaze, pesto crusted salmon

Wedding cake
8” semi-naked vanilla cake, coconut berry mini cupcakes, mini apple pies, macarons, and dessert shooters

Entertainment
DJ Mandy Mac (Amanda Fisher) was incredible! We had sent her some must-have songs for our reception, and she added in tons of good songs to keep us dancing into the night

Who supplied the stationery?
Invites were created DIY using Canva

Where did you go on your honeymoon?
We spent about a week in Bend, after our wedding hiking, fly fishing, and mountain biking.

Personal touches
For assigned seating, we used various hiking trails that we’ve hiked/backpacked on instead of table numbers. We had signature drinks that were named after our dogs (Lewis and Clark) and featured their photos and drink details on a sign at the bar. We also used National Park Postcards in lieu of a guest book. Guests were able to sign a post card and write down a piece of marriage advice or date night idea.

Special moments
Besides the wedding ceremony of course, we loved taking a little off-road adventure to Sahalie Falls. Not only did Lindsay capture some incredible photos, but it also gave us a chance to have some quiet time away from the bustle of day and explore a new area. We also loved how small and intimate our wedding was, we got to spend a lot of time dancing with our friends and family during the reception instead of feeling obligated to talk to 150+ guests.

Advice for other couples
Do what YOU want to do on your wedding day, from the guest list to the food/drinks, mood, location, traditions, everything. We did several “non-traditional” things for our wedding and we had an incredible time. Also infinite bonus points to marry your best friend.

Biggest surprise
Everyone says how fast it goes by, but it truly goes by so fast!
