Hello you lovely lot and welcome to another hot hot hot day here on the blog. The weather here in the UK is a bit crazy at the moment and we are having yet another heat wave! So where ever you are I hope you are managing to enjoy the lovely weather we ae having and not stuck at work. Today I am taking you to Oregon for the gorgeous wedding of Ellyn and Nicholas who were married on 5th September. They wanted a relaxed day filled with style, amazing flowers and some fantastic decor. Light tones and a neutral colour scheme makes this wedding really stand out, as it is full of the most amazing details. Big thank to Gallivan Photo for capturing it so perfectly for us.
Ellyn and Nicholas were married on 5th September 2021 at White Aspen Creative. ‘While both of us are from Minnesota, we had always dreamed of doing a destination wedding. Nick has family out in the Bend area that we had visited earlier in 2019, and when we were there we absolutely fell in love with the area. We knew we wanted to bring our family and friends out here to create a fun and unique experience for our guests. We had 120 guests, we had a long engagement and took just over 1.5 years to plan the wedding.’
How they met
We met at the beginning of our freshman year of high school and have been together ever since. We went to different colleges, dated through long distance, and after school we moved to Florida to start our adult lives together. All in all, we’ve been together for 13 years, and we essentially grew up together.
The proposal
The proposal took place back in Minnesota over Christmas of 2019. We had a romantic dinner at our favourite restaurant, Broders Pasta Bar, and Nick popped the question after we had eaten. The whole restaurant applauded and cheered and other couples bought us champagne to celebrate. After, we were back home where both families were waiting for us to celebrate throughout the rest of the night.
How did you allocate your budget?
We went through and prioritized our vendors and then allocated our budget. We sacrificed items that did not directly impact us.
Where did you splurge and where did you save?
Our biggest splurges were photography and an open bar. We saved on not having a videographer.
How did you choose your photographer?
We interviewed two prospective photographers and fell in love with Gallivans’ personality. We really valued the fact that they were a couple and were fun to hang out with.
The dress
Louvienne from Lovely Bride in Miami.
The suit and bridesmaids
The groom and groomsmen wore Generation Tux, and the bridesmaids wore brown dresses from Show Me Your Mumu.
Theme or colour scheme
We had a neutral colour palette – browns, tans, light muted pinks and terracotta.
Flowers
Whimsical, neutral flowers – mostly white with greenery and subtle pops of colour. The flowers were one of my favourite parts of the décor!
Food
The food was by Bleu Bite catering and it was all vegetarian – and delicious!
Wedding cake
Our wedding cake was a simple 2-tiered naked cake. It was almond flavored with a vanilla buttercream. The guests had the option to choose between the wedding cake or an array of different desserts.
Entertainment
Flip Flop sounds was our DJ.
Who supplied the stationery?
Casey Alexis Designs did our wedding day signage.
Where did you go on your honeymoon?
Florence, Italy was our honeymoon and it was one of the most magical trips we have ever been on!
Personal touches
We wrote our own vows, and we had Nick’s sister officiate the ceremony.
Special moments
The party bus with our wedding party to take photos, a small and intimate ceremony, writing our own vows, and having Nick’s sister officiate.
Advice for other couples?
Live in the moment with your spouse, as it goes fast and you only get one shot!
Biggest surprise
The biggest surprise was how special reading your own vows is in front of a small ceremony.
