Billy and Billie’s Pastel Pink Tipi Wedding in Canterbury by Lori Young Photography

Happy Thursday everyone and how are you all? If you are off for half term at the moment how’s it going? I’m having a lovely week so far, days spent with my boy and then the evenings in the office catching up on work, so far it’s going well. Today I am taking you back to the summer of 2023 as we head to Canterbury for the wedding of Billy and Billie. They were blessed with a beautifully sunny day, which was ideal for their flower filled tipi wedding. The whole day is super relaxed and laid back and filled with pink accents and the most beautiful flowers. Lori Young Photography was there to capture the day for us in style.

Relaxed, vibrant & fun! Very in the moment. Lots of children running around having fun.

Billy and Billie were married on 22nd June 2023 at Wilderness Weddings in Canterbury. ‘We are very outdoorsy/adventurous people, so we wanted an outdoor, summer wedding which was very fitting for our personalities and nature. We had 90ish guests’.

How did you choose your photographer?
We had seen Lori’s photographs via a friend’s wedding and thought their style was perfect for what we were looking for. “More natural fun shots captured in the moment.” Second Shooter on the day @kayleybullphotography

The dress
The dress was purchased by my mum at a local charity shop of all places! Hairpiece was from Ivory & Co. @faiarcher did the hair and make-up (she was awesome)!

The suit and bridesmaids
The boys looked very smart in traditional morning suite attire. Including the two littlest Groomsmen; the couple’s son & nephew. While the Bridesmaids all looked very demure in lightweight & floaty pink dresses. The flower girls each had a traditional white frock with a matching pink waistband.

Theme or colour scheme
Pink and Blue based on the colours of the flowers & Bridal party attire.

Flowers
Supplied by @blubellecreative. The flowers were a mix of beautiful pampas with baby’s breath/Gypsophila, pink roses and peonies, with just the right amount of vibrant green foliage so as not to get lost in the woodland setting of Wilderness!

Decoration
Beyond the natural decor that Wilderness already has to offer, and the flowers, the couple kept things very simple! The perks of picking a beautiful venue like Wilderness. Billie arrived at the venue in a super cool classic convertible beetle and the evening guests were transported to the wedding in a really cool defender complete with a bow on it! Which also doubled up as the couple’s transport back to their hotel at the end of the night.

Food
The food was INCREDIBLE! Tables were given sharing platters of the most delicious veggie bites (and some meat plates for the carnivores)
Menu put together by Mike & Ollie;

almonds, seasonal fruit coulis & tart sumac to finish

We then had Woodfire Pizza to be served from food truck for their evening spread!

Wedding cake
Made by @Mamafeelgoods. The cake looked spectacular! We did the cutting of the cake during the day, so our guests were able to enjoy the cake with a cup or tea/coffee/glass of fizz before their main meal!

Entertainment
The evening entertainment was provided by The Swift Beats aka All Out 60’s. The bride and her dad did the most EPIC father/daughter dance after the bride and groom first graced the dancefloor together with their son. Think high-energy, big movements, lots of footwork… it was amazingly fun to watch. Unlike anything I have seen before and so appropriate for this wedding. It was clear to see that B&B stayed true to their own core values and didn’t just follow the stereotypical wedding traditions for tradition’s sake!

Personal touches
The favours were put together by the couple. On everyone’s place setting was a small, miniature bottle of booze with a handwritten note citing a popular quote/line from a song!

Special moments
“Seeing each other for the first time there, Billie (the bride) walking down the aisle in her dress. The family group shots! And people just having a good time. We wanted to look back on our day and remember what a wicked day it was with so many happy, smiling people and just general good vibes.”

I am based in Maidstone, Kent. However, I travel almost anywhere and everywhere for my couples! (Any excuse to grab a suitcase and hit the road for a couple of days!) I consider my photography style to be a subtle blend of everyone’s favourite word; “candid” with a hint of fine art and documentary-esque (the esque is important!) elements for good measure.
