Well hello Friday! I can’t believe its this time of the week already, it has flown by! It’s been a successful week so far, the children have gone back to school, I have had a full week in the office, and things are looking good here at Boho HQ. So on with today’s wedding and it’s the turn of Kelly and Chris who were married on 16th June 2024 in Kona, Hawaii. This is a gorgeous, vibrant wedding, full of the most gorgeous flowers and incredible decoration. I do love a tropical beach wedding, especially when there is lots of colour involved. big thanks to Modern Milestones for the lovely photos.
What began as a laid-back first date ended with a late-night kiss in the rain after Kelly asked Chris out for beers at a local brewery. From that moment on, Kelly and Chris have followed each other everywhere. Their love has withstood multiple moves across the country, buying a home together, and surviving home renovations. While planning a trip to Maine for a friend’s wedding, Chris began his own preparations to propose. After arriving in Lubec, Kelly asked Chris to get up early with her to watch where the sun first rises in the United States, unknowingly playing into Chris’s plan. As the sun rose along the horizon, Chris got down on one knee.
Kelly and Chris utilized hyper-local wedding vendors and decor to create a bright and tropical wedding day on the Big Island, capturing the simplicity of Hawaii’s natural landscape. The Kona Salt Farm, the only working salt farm on the island of Hawaii, provided its oceanfront property for the wedding, offering an authentic Hawaiian feel unencumbered by a hotel or resort. The ceremony took place at the edge of the sands, where wooden benches faced an altar of two pillars of tropical foliage and flowers. Bright floral arrangements stole the show, boasting hot reds, purples, pinks, and plenty of oversized leafy palms. Kelly’s dress had a champagne pink undertone and modern floral lace, accented with dainty beaded straps for a romantic and beachy feel. To beat the heat, Chris wore a dressy-casual Lululemon top and pants, paired with a custom-made vest featuring a Hawaiian print on the back. With either an ocean view or a backdrop of tropical textures, guests dined outdoors at exposed wooden tables and bamboo chairs. An incredible wooden dance floor was installed in the sand, while woven lanterns hung from a wild-growing tree as a display of coconut beverages rested nearby. The couple designed a wooden seating chart cut into the shape of surfboards, and a nearby mobile taphouse trailer offered local brews ready to pour. Kelly posed alongside oversized bird of paradise plants and shared a few moments with local event llama, Obama Llama, leading up to a lava rock sunset photoshoot with Chris, providing ocean mist to their just-married kisses.
