Kai and Jozi’s Blue and White Backyard Wedding by Sol Luna Photography

Happy Friday everyone, I hope you are ready for the weekend? I am off to a burns night celebration tomorrow. I have never been to a burns night before, so it should be interesting! Dexter’s coming with us, so it’s a family friendly event! I will let you know on Monday how we get on. Then on Sunday we are off to York for the Van Gogh immersive experience, so a pretty varied weekend all round! I have a super cute wedding to share with you today. Kai and Jozi held a backyard wedding in Michigan with a colour palette of white and blue. They wanted a simple day, so kept their guest count to 50 which created a really personal feel to the whole day. Sol Luna Photography was there to capture the day for us.

Our wedding day was filled with so much peace and laughter. The wedding day was everything we could have dreamed and more.

Kai and Jozi were married on 1st July 2023 in a backyard ceremony in Mattawan, Michigan. ‘We naturally knew that we would marry, I always thought that he would be my perfect life partner. We had 50 guest and it took a year to plan.

How they met
Jozi and Kai met each other in Korea, when my Kai’s military base was in Korea for his active duty. After 1 year of dating, Kai had to go back to the States after his active duty and they decided to immigrate Jozi to the States. Because of Covid, immigration took more than 1 year for Jozi to get in the States and during immigration procedures, they communicated only through phone calls which was really difficult time for them. But they set time for their regular calls and made their time together special by watching movies and shows together through the video calls.

The proposal
Kai proposed to me very casually at the convenience store and he told me that he wants to marry me and write our life story together.

How did you allocate your budget
We write the list of what we need to do and what would be the optional for us and organize in the excel sheet and set the amount we want to use.

Where did you splurge and where did you save?
We splurge in the dinner buffet and saved on florals and venue choice.

How did you choose your photographer?
I read a lot of reviews and got a lot of recommendations. And her Instagram wedding pictures make me choose her as my wedding photographer.

The dress 
My dress was by Renee Austin Wedding in Grand Rapids, MI, and accessories and shoes from Jozi’s mom.

The suit and bridesmaids
We bought a suit at the Macy and the bridesmaids bring their own dress.

Theme or colour scheme
The colour in our wedding was dusty blue and white

Flowers 
We had White rose and Light Blue or green Hydrangeas, White Ranunculus.

Decoration 
Jozi’s mom made wedding arch with using flower because she is the florist in our wedding.

Food
We eat the buffet : steak, chicken, green beans, Mac and Cheese and mash potatoes.

Wedding cake
We order our own customize wedding cake from CakaBakery : vanilla bean flavour. And Jozi’s mom decorated it with flowers

Who supplied the stationery?
Jozi’s mom and dad, Kai’s mom and dad helps us to supply the stationery.

Where are you going on your honeymoon?
We haven’t gone yet due to Jozi’s visa status at that time, but later we are planning to go the Australia or Europe.

Special moments
There are lots of special moments but among all of them wedding ceremony done by Kai’s dad and Jozi’s dad is the most special moment. They are the people who love the most and know the most, wedding ceremony (officiant) by them makes our wedding more special.

Advice for other couples
I recommend having a wedding planner for the wedding even though you are planning to have a small wedding. It’s important to make a checklist for the wedding day and organize what you and your partner have to do.

Biggest surprise 
The moment of the first look, it was the first time Kai got to see Jozi’s wedding dress. It was so stunning and she was so beautiful, Kai couldn’t take his eyes off her.
