Audrey and Gavin’s ‘Desert Vibes Meets Chic New York City Wedding by Theresa Kelly Photography

Hello you lovely people! How are you all? if you are here in the UK I hope you are keeping warm, it is SO cold at the moment, we really are in the midst of deepest winter! I don’t want to wish the months away but I am already dreaming of spring! Today’s wedding is taking us back to warmer climates, when you could go out without a big coat and enjoy al fresco living with the fabulous New York City wedding of Audrey and Gavin, brought to you by Dhalia Events and Theresa Kelly Photography. This fun loving couple wanted to mix chic city living with accents of the desert, so they brought in warm under tones and a soft muted colour scheme. Add in cocktails and neon lights and you have this fun filled stylish wedding, enjoy!

Audrey met Gavin at a mutual friend’s birthday party. Gavin, being six-foot-six, was impossible for her to miss. They struck up a conversation, and both felt an instant connection. They somehow kept bumping into each other that night. Their first date was at the Hilma of Klint’s “Paintings for the Future” exhibit at the Guggenheim Museum. At the end of the date, they purchased a print from the exhibit. Audrey and Gavin have joked that their first date truly lasted a few months since they saw each other nearly every day that followed the day at the museum. Three years later, Gavin asked Audrey to pull the framed print off the wall. Behind the artwork was an envelope that was sealed. It was postmarked with the day after their beloved museum date. The letter read, “A proposal for the future — Audrey, will you spend the rest of your life with me?” Of course, she said yes!

Audrey and Gavin’s NYC wedding integrated warm colours and bold textures of the Southwest with a hip and relaxed city feel. Hosted at The Bonnie, this local Astoria bar and eatery was transformed into an event space for the night. The unique layout and brick interior created an intimate feel for their secluded party in the Queens neighbourhood. Audrey hand painted the cocktail menus and invitations, in which she detailed the façade of the venue and its stunning blue exterior, surrounded by succulents to pay homage to their love of the Southwest. Gavin, a creator of animation, also included some of his own artistic designs by projecting them onto the walls during the reception. Their ceremony was held in the outdoor bar garden. The space included reclaimed city cobblestones, foliage, and antique lighting. Audrey wore a gown by bohemian designer Rue De Seine, complete with bold style laces, a deep V neckline, and an effortless flowing skirt. She paired her dress with knee-high white leather boots and statement-making silver and turquoise Jewelry for a desert rockstar look. Gavin sported a tan suit to complement the warm undertones of Audrey’s dress. Inspired aesthetically by the desert, the decor focused on colour and texture, which included succulents, red and orange wildflowers, and tiny neon signs in playful shapes. The couple’s photo reel provided offbeat energy, while their ceremony altar later became the backdrop for speeches and photo-ops.
