Morgan and Zack’s Dark and Dramatic ‘Gatsby Vibes’ L A Wedding by Jorge Macis Photography

Hello Monday and how are you all? I hope you all had a good weekend despite the rubbish weather?! I hope the sunshine comes back soon, it has been missed! It was my niece’s birthday yesterday, so the family took it turns to go and celebrate with her. We all had our designated times, so there was no cross over and not too many people there at a time! Today I have a super cool wedding to share with you and I absolutely love it! Morgan and Zack are the most amazing couple, they both work in the arts and they both ooze style! They went for ‘Gatsby Vibes’ with a black and gold colour scheme, mixed with the most beautiful flowers. Morgan wears the most stunning BHLDN gown and Zack’s suit is on point! I just love everything about this day. It is cool, stylish and full of personality and character. A real reflection of this fun loving couple. Massive thanks to Jorge Macis Photography for the amazing photos.

This is 100% Morgan and Zack’s wedding. So THEM.

Morgan and Zack were married on 6th October 2019 The Seventh Place in LA. ‘I always loved the idea of a dark moody fall wedding. October is the perfect in LA. Not too hot and not too cold. We had 250 guests. With the help of my best friends mom Lisa Nyman we planned from Jan 2019 to the wedding. Zack and I got engaged December 16th 2018. When I got anxious I would bring a wedding back down to basics…Location, Food, Dancing. It’s not rocket science WE GOT THIS and so does everyone else freaking out about planning a wedding.’

How they met
Zack and I met in college on the set of a film. I was a BFA Theatre Major and he was a BFA Film Major. I was actually in a relationship so the timing wasn’t right but when I became available the rest was history. 7 years later I can’t imagine life without. When you find the one you just know!

The proposal
Since Zack makes films for a living he made me a sweet video with all of our memories in it. I thought it was my Christmas present and I didn’t know until the end when my parents showed up in the video and he was holding the ring. I dropped to my knees and sobbed! It was the best. After that all of our friends were gathered for a surprise party. It was perfect.

Where did you splurge and where did you save?
Before partnering with BHLDN for my wedding dress…I learned super quick that my dream dress of $5,000 was NOT happening. My head came out of the clouds very quickly when I saw price tags on dresses. At the end of the day it is 1 day. I think bringing yourself down to that level and just being grateful you found your person is going to help you save.
You have nothing to prove to anybody! Moving forward I have so much grace for every wedding I ever get invited to. Just to be invited is a huge deal and on top of that they feed you!! No one has to feed you!

How did you choose your photographer?
Our photographer was a friend from college who we loved! His work is amazing and we were so honoured to have him as apart of our day.

The dress
My dress was from BHLDN. The experience in the Beverly Hills shop was the most magical day in my life. I felt like I was born to be there and my dress was the first one I put on. My shoes were Jeffery Campbell but what made them so special was the diamond bows I put on them from SSY Designs. My favourite accessory was my butterfly necklace from Jane Winchester Jewelry. On your big day you should feel like yourself! All her jewellery has a meaning and mind meant: “ There is a confidence that comes with freedom. Whether you need encouragement to take the steps to freedom, or have a  newfound freedom you want to celebrate, the butterfly inspires with her gentle movement and complete independence. You make your own choices. You are determined. You are FREE.”

The suit and bridesmaids
My amazing bridesmaids wore none other than Adriana Papell. I wanted dark Gatsby vibes. They were perfect. The men wore The Black Tux.

Theme or colour scheme
I wanted everything to feel dark and dramatic.

Flowers
They were perfect. I worked with Bloominous. They are a brand that lets you pick all your flowers and you set them up. It is a huge money saver if you have someone in the family that can arrange flowers! I had a friend who seriously BLEW IT OUT OF THE WATER. I could not have been more blown away. I gave her control over flowers:) All she had was my colour vision. Bloominous is such a smart company and I think for brides everywhere it is a life saver.

Decoration
I really let the flowers take the show. Everything was black and gold for the most part.

Food
TACOS:) Our favourite and soooo easy. No waiting and everyone is stoked.

Wedding cake
Gluten Free perfection. My favorite baker and owner of Sweet Song Bakery made the perfect cake and cupcakes.

Entertainment
Our DJ was amazing. He goes by DJLMNOP. He is so fun, music is the best, and he brought the best vibes.

Who supplied the stationery?
Minted!! I love everything they do and they are so easy to work with.

Where did you go on your honeymoon?
We went to Bali and Tokyo!! In Bali we stayed in amazing villa!! Our family friends treated us to the best experience. Tokyo was a special gift to me from my husband! My grandmother is Japanese and passed away. To not have her be a part of the wedding was the hardest part. Zack wanted me to feel like she was still with us so we stopped in Japan for 5 days on the way home!! Best husband in the world.

Personal touches
I actually sang as I walked down the isle. Both of us are in the industry for a living and our love language is art. I wanted to have a special moment that would catch everyone off guard. No one knew I was going to do it! It was wild.

Special moments
Honestly the ceremony was the greatest part of the whole day. I really wanted that to be the focus and the highlight. It’s easy to play good music and serve food at an event. I think what sets weddings apart is peoples love for each other. I love to see that come out as they promise their lives to each other.

Advice for other couples
It is YOUR DAY. Take each moment and breathe it in. You will never ever be so pure and so happy again. I never laughed and cried as much. It was the greatest day of my life.

Biggest surprise
I honestly felt like we were Jay-Z and Beyonce the ENTIRE NIGHT. There was not a single second that someone wasn’t hugging us and asking for photos. If I could go back organizing a better way to see everyone would change the night. I don’t know why is surprised me so much but we literally spent the entire dinner/dance taking photos and talking to each person for like 1 min.
