Jennifer and Robert’s ‘From Wedding Gown to Play Suit’ Fun Filled Lancashire Barn Wedding by Mike Plunkett

Today I have the most stunning barn wedding for you, from Clitheroe in Lancashire. Tithe Barn is the location of the wedding and it really is a flower filled bonanza of wedding pretty. Jennifer and Robert chose Tithe barn as they wanted somewhere close to where Robert grew up. The barn itself is gorgeous but they made it extra specially beautiful by adding lanterns, drapes and the most gorgeous flowers. The day is filled with so many lovely details, but most of all a whole lot of love and smiles. As for Jennifer, she wore a gorgeous Jesus Peiro gown for the day and then changed into a super cute bridal playsuit for the evening reception, so stylish! Big thanks to Mike Plunkett  for the lovely images.

One of our guests wrote this in our guest book and I like to think it summed up our day perfectly: ‘What a beautiful wedding. So full of care, thought and attention to detail but overpowering sense that it is so full of love’

Jennifer and Robert were married on 11th August 2017 at Tithe Barn, Browsholme Hall, Clitheroe in Lancashire. ‘We wanted somewhere in the Ribble Valley (Lancashire) as that’s where Robert grew up and it is a special place to us. We looked around some venues, but you weren’t able to do you own thing, so when we found Browsholme Hall it was perfect. We were able to put our personalities into the day. We invited 75 of closest friends and family and it took 8 months to plan.’

How they met
We met at University in 2007. We were in the same group of friends for years, before we got together in 2011, so 7 years!

The proposal
It was extremely romantic, private and absolutely perfect.

How did you allocate your budget?
We had a spreadsheet and tried to stick to it as much as possible – deciding what the budget was for each area. Food, flowers and fun were most important to us.

Where did you splurge and where did you save?
I wanted a dress by the Spanish brand, Jesus Peiro, so that was our biggest splurge. Flowers were also very important to us, so I guess that was the other splurge.

How did you choose your photographer?
It was by fate we found Mike. We were looking for a photographer and I logged onto my Facebook one day and I saw Mike’s page because one of my friends followed him. His documentary style was exactly what we wanted, so we booked him straight away. Mike was fantastic to work with, we adore our natural photographs. He was able to capture the emotion, atmosphere and beauty of the occasion very discreetly.

The dress
Dress – Jesus Peiro, Lulu Browns in Whalley. Veil – Richard Designs, Lulu Browns in Whalley. Shoes – Carvella, Selfridges.

The suit and bridesmaids
Robert wore a bespoke suit from Charles Campbell in Ribchester and Bridesmaids wore Boden.

Did you have a theme or colour scheme?
Just us! No theme or colour scheme.

Flowers
Our flowers were by Simply by Arrangement. They were the only choice for our wedding flowers. We met them, after I had attended a few workshops.  We had a beautiful floral arch made, which we got married under; bouquets, which I didn’t want to put down; stunning centrepieces for the most perfect buttonholes and corsages. The flowers were inspired by a English garden and were: foxgloves, Dahlias, Chocolate Cosmos, a variety of garden roses, rudbeckia Sahara, calendula, masses of jasmine, eucalyptus and lots of other foliage.

Decoration
Creative Cover Hire installed our decorations. We decided that because the flowers were such a focal point, the rest of the decor had to be clean and simple. A simple (very long) piece of white fabric was draped through each beam of the barn to create a wave effect and then white lanterns were placed in rows between the beams.

Food
We worked with an amazing catering company called With a Twist to create a bespoke 3 course menu. Our evening food was traditional fish and chips served in cones. From Canapés to the coffee & chocolate, fondant to fish……It was out of this world. Service, detail, dressing of plates, taste, timing and professionalism of the Twist team was just perfect.

Wedding cake
A family friend, who is the most fantastic baker made our cake. It looked fantastic and tasted delicious. It was three tiers of: lemon drizzle, fruit cake and Victoria Sponge with homemade Jam.

Entertainment
We had both a DJ and also a band. The DJ started playing a very soulful relaxed set as the wedding breakfast was served with the music tempo picking up as the evening went on. Our band The Firebirds were great. They specialised in vintage versions of rock and pop favourites! From Soul to Funk to Jazz, The Firebirds sounded modern and authentic all in one!

Who supplied the stationery?
Rob owns a graphic design business called Teacake Design, so he produced our stationery.  Rob created a range of beautiful graphics, including a bespoke J&R monogram which was emboss printed across our full range of stationery. Rob worked with scans of hand pressed flowers to create unique floral letterforms which he used to spell out words and dates on our gorgeous invitations, he even created a range of floral numbers to be used on the table.

Personal touches
We had around 50 Polaroid photos hanging in the entrance hall. These photos starting from when we met 10 years ago to present day. My friend brought her Polaroid camera, so we could add one last photo to the display which was us moments after saying I Do – a lovely touch.
As a surprise Rob chose a range of lyrics from 75 different songs (one for each guest) each lyric was take from a song that meant something to us both throughout our relationship. The lyric’s from the 75 songs were used as part of the design for each guests table name card. The typography was beautiful and the messages very sentimental.

Special moments
The whole day was absolutely perfect. We didn’t stop smiling all day but if I had to say it would be the ceremony. It was so intimate. We had two of our closest friends say readings, which they had chosen themselves so were a surprise, so that was very special.
Also, the speeches were fantastic. We laughted and cried for what seemed like hours.

Advice for other couples
Enjoy every moment as it will go so fast and document each part of the planning.
I took photos at every appointment such as picking up my dress and it is so nice to have them as memories. After the bigger appointments we would go out for a meal to discuss plans.
This time together was very special and helped us remember what the true meaning of the day was all about.

Biggest surprise
Probably how relaxed I was! My friends and family couldn’t believe it.
