Ask The Experts: Top 10 Romantic Honeymoon Destinations with 101 Honeymoons

Honeymoons, possibly the most exciting thing to plan when it comes to your wedding. The time you spend, just you and your now husband or wife, a time to decompress and take some time to relax after all the months of preparation, a time for reflection on all your hard work and to look forward to the years ahead as a married couple. But how do you choose the perfect honeymoon destination with the whole world at your disposal? Today I have enlisted the help of Honeymoon expert Jane Anderson from 101 Honeymoons. 101 Honeymoons is the UK’s leading independent honeymoon website where Jane shows us 101 of her favourite honeymoon destinations. The site is easy to use, full of information and a must for anyone looking to book their perfect getaway.

I have taken some time to compile my Top 10 Destinations from the website. Destinations I am sure that you will be happy to view. And who knows? Perhaps when you visit the site yourself, you will find that Dream Destination for your Honeymoon!

Morocco

Kicking off a new life together gets no better than a Honeymoon in Morocco. Totally exotic and completely different from any other holiday you will have done.  The peace and tranquility of a Marrakech riad courtyard, the startling views and majesty of an Atlas Mountain  kasbah, dawn rising over a Saharan dune and miles and miles of exquisite coast.

Bali

Known as Island of the Gods thanks to its extraordinary natural beauty, Bali is truly a heavenly place for a honeymoon. You’ll find plenty of uncrowded beaches, from the sootiest volcanic black sand to the brightest golden shoreline; bright hillsides carved into perilously narrow cake tiers; forest wildernesses and four volcanoes that pierce the clouds. Beautiful women carry mountains of fruit on their heads; whole families in ceremonial dress perch on a single moped. Bali is an idyll unto itself.

The Arctic

The snowy landscapes of the Arctic have an ethereal quality that lends itself to romance. Why not try something different with a wintery honeymoon or a  surreal and deeply romantic hideaway. Stay in a glass igloo and marvel at the Northern Lights above or chill out in a luxury tepee with private hot tub after a day’s husky sledding or ice fishing.

Nile Cruise in Egypt

Egypt is so very easy to get to, yet so very foreign, making it all the more alluring for couples who have never visited. Cairo is a crazy sprawl of a city with breathtaking delights, from the Sphinx to Mena House, a landmark hotel. Take a romantic cruise down the Nile on a super-stylish boat and soak up the sights and sites.

Glamping in Wales

Choose from a hand-picked a selection of bijou cottages for two, shepherd’s huts, hip hideaways and luxury yurts in such gorgeous spots as the Brecon Beacons, the Black Mountains, Snowdonia and the Wye Valley.

Japan

In amongst the excitement of Tokyo and Kyoto, riding the Silver Bullet train and exploring the tropical islands of Okinawa, honeymooners owe it to themselves to experience Japan’s hot springs. Slip into a yukata robe and split-toe tabi socks for an array of traditional treatments, and let that wedding stress drift away

Brazil

Havaiana flip-flops at the ready, it’s time to pull out all the stops with an intoxicating Brazilian honeymoon. Follow the jet-set and combine Ipanema beach life with partying in Rio, change pace with an Amazonian riverboat adventure then kick back in trendy Trancoso on the Bahia coast or an exclusive retreat on the Emerald Coast.

Oman

Oman may not work as a honeymoon destination in the height of British summer, when it’s scorchingly hot, but from October through to April we think Oman is just brilliant for honeymooners. With none of the glitz of neighbouring Dubai, Oman is perfect for adventurous couples in search of the real Arabia – and great beaches. From smooching in a romantic tent under a star-strewn desert sky to gawping at the eight-tonne crystal chandelier in the Grand Mosque, Oman delivers.

Masseria Le Torri in Puglia, Italy

Owner Mimmo used to stay in this old farmhouse when he was a boy, and with his wife Silvana, they have poured their passion and know-how into creating an exclusive, nine-bedroom enclave for newlyweds. The rooms are airy, light and spacious with a dreamy feel – each is highly individual and all have a delightful terrace or balcony. Breakfast is included and light lunches are available by the pool, along with drinks from the poolside bar. Some of Puglia’s stylish beach clubs and a host of restaurants are all in easy striking distance.

Luxury Greece

Sometimes the ultimate honeymoon is closer and more affordable than you think. Heralding a new style of all-inclusive, Ikos Oceania and Ikos Olivia promise ‘infinite lifestyle’ honeymoons in gorgeous Halkidiki. With everything from bungalows with private pools to couples’ treatments at the dreamy Anne Semonin Spa, you can’t go wrong.
