Summer must be over because I’m getting numerous emails and phone calls a day about wedding fairs! To be honest I’m not a massive fan of wedding fairs, I’ve been to too many now and they are all pretty much the same. As a planner I have made the decision not to exhibit at them any more as it just isn’t the best medium for couples to find me. However some wedding exhibitions are different! 2 in particular. The first one being The Designer Vintage Bridal Show that I am exhibiting as a Blogger on 7th and 8th October (which I’m very excited about.)
The second is the save the date ‘Wedding Event with a Difference’. Brought to you by the Lovely Abbie and Lydia.
The reason I feel this event is so different is because they look at the whole wedding fair idea with a different perspective! Let’s me honest its hard to make a wedding fair different but they seem to manage it pretty well. It’s helped by the amazing venue held at Derbys’s Roundhouse and the great mix of wedding exhibitors they have picked to attend.
So, what is the Wedding Event with a Difference?
In a nutshell, the Wedding Event with a Difference is an event which focuses on fabulous wedding suppliers with an emphasis on being different. In 2010, Save the Date magazine recognised a need to revolutionise wedding fayres. Having visited various fayres, they thought it was about time they were given a face lift. And so that is what they did… and on 6th February 2011, they planned the very first Wedding Event with a Difference at the Roundhouse in Derby. From creative, inspirational suppliers, a quality catwalk show, interactive demonstrations, great entertainment and a fresh vibe, their aim was to inject the excitement back into wedding events and make them inspiring for all involved.
Here’s what some of their brides who went along had to say:
“I liked the style of the exhibitors as they felt like they had a unique feel rather than the bog standard people that you see at some of the other events.”
“Hope that I know someone getting married next year so I can go again!”
“Perfect inspiration and gave me loads of great ideas, totally up my street. Lots of wedding events are so cheesy and ‘normal’ so this was exactly what I was looking for. I get so jealous, looking on American blogs at all the weddings and not seeing that in the UK but this satisfied my jealousy. Thank you. “
“It was brilliant”.
“I thought the atmosphere, look and feel of the event was excellent. I have recommended it to other brides and would definitely attend the next event.”
So, Lydia and Abbi, are moving on to their next wedding event with a difference. Held at the same venue, The Roundhouse.
Categories include the Style Lounge, the Blokes Corner for all the manly stuff, Chic and Unique for beautiful styling and new areas including the Creative Corner with lovingly handmade pieces of pretty and the Lyrical Lounge – a tipi tent erected at the main entrance, complete with fire pit, with live music throughout the day. Along with the fantastic exhibitors and an electric atmosphere, there will be catering by the incredible Fiona Herbert Catering Company, tea cocktails (alcoholic or non alcoholic, your choice!), a fantastic catwalk show with lots of diverse ranges of dresses, suits, mother of the bride and bridesmaids plus seminars and lots of interactivity.
Each ticket purchased is entered into a competition to win £5,000 worth of wedding supplies from a selection of the exhibitors there on the day.
The Wedding Event with a Difference takes place on Sunday 16th October from 10.30am – 3.30pm at the Roundhouse, Pride Park, Derby DE24 8JE. Tickets are available online at www.savethedatemagazine.co.uk/events . Due to the high numbers in attendance at the last event, it is highly recommended that tickets are pre-booked as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. Tickets are £5 each with a group booking discount of £16 for four. Tickets are £6.50 on the door.
I’ll be popping along so if your there make sure you come over and say Hi, I’d love to meet as many of you as possible.
see you there Big Boho Love

Kelly didn’t know you’d be popping into the fair, will be great to see you. We can’t wait to exhibit at this wedding fair. Obviously to meet all the lovely new brides and grooms but also to see what all the other exhibitors are doing, it looks like it’s going to be a great day for everyone.
And if anyone’s interested if you hop along to our blog at the moment we are running a competition to win 2 x FREE ticket to the show http://theweddingofmydreams.co.uk/blog/2011/09/win-2-tickets-to-the-wedding-event-with-a-difference-derby/
Gemma, The Wedding of my Dreams
I am really into bridal shows, I just don’t see any ugliness in them. :D If I get the chance, I’d attend every show in town. I just feel like I’m in dreamland every time I walk on the floors of a bridal show venue. :)
Looking forward to finding out more about this wedding fair Kelly! I gave up on finding ‘new and different’ fairs but I have complete faith in you to let the world know when a really truly brilliantly different one comes along!
