Elen and Edmund’s ‘Outdoors In’ Anglesey Wedding By Gill Jones Photography

Today’s wedding is a real beauty, full of simple and natural elements as the couples main aim was to bring the outdoors in, and that they did with an abundance of style. The wedding takes place in Anglesey where Elen the bride is originally from. The decoration is totally gorgeous, with a mixture of succulents, greenery, white flowers and feathers all dotted around and suspended from the ceiling and the walls. The ceremony is simple yet beautiful, followed with a reception of Paella and a huge cheese board. Gill Jones Photography has done a wonderful job of capturing the day, along with some beautiful portrait shots. A totally gorgeous wedding, where the couple have done a brilliant job of creating a calm and soothing day, by incorporating natural elements mixed with vintage and eclectic touches.

‘Our wedding day was very relaxed and very non-traditional. It was a beautiful wedding in the most beautifully setting with all our friends and family having a great time’

Elen and Edmund were married on 19th September 2015 at Carreglwyd, Llanfeuthlu, Anglesey. ‘I am from Anglesey and we wanted all our friends and family in London to come up to see how beautiful it is. Carreglwyd is the only venue we saw, as once you see it, nothing can compare. We had a total of 50 guests and the wedding took 6 months to plan.

How they met
We met through a mutual friend just after university, we’ve been together for over 10 years.

The Proposal
We just moved into our own house, it was a Wednesday night Ed cooked my favourite meal and insisted we had champagne with dinner which made me suspicious, and I was right to be, during dessert he popped the question.

How did you allocate your budget
We spent about £6K, the biggest cost was the venue. We had lots of good contacts which meant we were able to keep the budget really low.

Where did you splurge and where did you save
There were no big splurges, as we did have to stay in budget. What worked out really well was the food, we didn’t want a formal sit down dinner so we got a street vendor to come in and serve paella, they also did canapés and bread all of which were amazing, it was exactly what we wanted. The bar was amazing also; it was free as long as we got the minimum.

How did you choose your photographer
Gill Jones covered my sister’s wedding and I loved the pictures so we had to go with Gill.

The Dress
My two piece was from Reformation, again didn’t want a traditional dress and love the brand as its eco-friendly. My shoes were from Topshop and my head dress was from a store on Etsy.

The Suit and Bridesmaids
The suits was from Ted Baker, Ed is 6 foot 7 so T for Tall is a must for him, since I work in the head office the discount came in handy too! I had no bridesmaids, everyone just had to get stuck in.

Theme or Colour Scheme
No theme or colour, the venue did most of the work. What I wanted to achieve was to bring the outdoors in so I wanted a lot of green rather than flowers.

Flowers
I had amazing flowers thanks to my mother and my sister who used to run a florist in Llanfair. My wedding bouquet was white peonies and fern leaves, with some feathers. Inside we had a garland going all the way round with a lot of foliage including willow and rosemary. My mum pretty much cut down her garden and brought it all in, it looked amazing!

Decoration
The flowers / foliage was the main decoration, on the tables we had succulents in terracotta pots. I also made quite a number of macramé hanging baskets that were scattered around.

Food
We had a seafood and a meat paella. We also had a huge cheese board, my husband is a cheesemonger so that came in handy too!

Wedding Cake
Ed’s mother makes amazing wedding cakes, thankfully she agreed to go our non-traditional way and made an amazing naked layered cake. Lemon drizzle our favourite!

Entertainment
A play list that took Ed about 2 days to put together, pop the I pod in and away we go. It worked a treat!

The Stationery
I bought them from a store on Etsy and hand wrote them all out, it took a while!

Personal or Handmade Touches
We did all the decorating ourselves we got the keys to the venue first thing on Thursday and we were finished by Friday night. In the bar area we used big bales for seats and tables and covered them in vintage material and outside we made a mini bar from big bales with a door on top it all look great! I collected vintage crockery and table cloths over the year which really fitted into the scheme.

Special Moments
I didn’t want a big entrance so I was there before everyone with Ed to do the meet and greet and give everyone a glass of bubbles, I loved that. The ceremony was perfect as we had it out in the sun and the weather meant we could all stay out and play games until 6pm which was perfect.

Advice to other couples
Try not to stress out, and remember to do what you want to do. Personal touches made all the difference as it really made our wedding feel uniquely our

Biggest surprise
That the sun was out! I mean it is North Wales after all! It made all the difference.
