Leah and Matt’s Stylish Cornish Wedding By Debs Ivelja

Today I am taking you on a trip to sunny Cornwall. OK t’s not all sunny, The first half is rain filled, while the second half is like being on a tropical island. Having lived in Cornwall for 18 years I can verify that this is a typical Cornish day whether wise, one minute sunny the next chucking it down, but I guess that is part of Cornwall’s charm! The photos taken by the hugely talented Debs Ivelja are just beautiful, clean, crisp and really show off the scenery and blue sky’s to their best. A truly stunning Cornish wedding full of style, charm and amazing views.

Matt and Leah were married on 29th May 2015 at St Ia’s Church followed by a reception at Carbis Bay Hotel. ‘St Ives was our first holiday together 6 years ago so it made sense to get married here. We had 95 guests in total. Our engagement was 2 years so I guess you could say that long to plan the wedding. Condensed down, probably about 8 months.’

How they met
We have been together 6 years

The Proposal
Matt wanted to propose in Dubai whilst on a desert safari star gazing. what he didn’t count on was the hundreds of other people that were there. He tried to find a quite time but he kept on being interrupted by loud tourists. When we left the desert, we headed back to our friends house where we were staying. Matt took me for a walk around the tropical gardens and proposed with the biggest plastic ring I have ever seen by a lake sat under a veranda. It was totally unexpected!

How did you choose your photographer
Our good friend is a wedding photographer himself but we wanted him to enjoy the day as a guest. He suggest Debs, we looked at her work and were instantly impressed. Who wouldn’t be!

Flats and Sharps, First dance, Willowtree was sung live by Thomas J Speight and Eliza Shaddad – They both played in the church too. Magical!!

Personal or Handmade Touches
Succulent plants for wedding favours.
Locally brewed and bottled ale by Boilers which beautiful hand drawn illustrations of St Ives.
Live music played through out the ceremony and reception. The songs that were played mean so much to us, we tracked down the artists and dragged them to Cornwall!
First Great Western put on an extra coach for as and supplied a champagne reception at the train station. The train journey from St Ives to Carbis bay is only 3 minute but is a gorgeous coastal train ride! 

Special Moments
The whole ceremony and the speeches and our first dance and seeing everyone together!

Advice to other couples
It goes in a flash so stand back and take it all in. Don’t stress about the little things. Make it personal to you and your groom/bride to be.

Biggest surprise
The champagne reception at the train station, we didn’t know anything about it before we got there!
