Laura and Steven’s Shabby Chic French Chateau Wedding, by Kit Myers

Todays wedding is a pretty fancy affair, a fabulous French Chateau wedding set in the most stunning grounds, with beautiful sunshine and an incredibly handsome couple. With the new Blog design I feel the content warrants a few more weddings like this, classic yet modern in their approach, with stunning venues and the best suppliers. This gorgeous destination wedding has not only a wonderful outdoor ceremony but the most beautiful of outdoor reception, which I totally love! Who doesn’t want to eat alfresco in the French sunshine on their wedding day? Thanks to Kit Myers for the wonderful photos.

‘An incredibly happy and memorable occasion, surrounded by all of our family and friends. Our wedding had a relaxed, summer feel in the hope that everyone would enjoy it’

Laura and Steven were married on 6th June 2015 at a château in the Dordogne region of France. ‘I (Laura) used to holiday in the region as a child and when we visited the château we fell in love with it. We had a total of 80 guests. We got engaged in May 2014 so it took just over a year to plan the whole wedding.’

How they met
We met at a friends BBQ (one of his and my best friends are married) in 2010 so five years.

The Proposal
I thought we were going away for a weekend in Devon but he surprised me by taking me to Venice, we went out for dinner at the Danieli restaurant/hotel where he got down on one knee.

How did you allocate your budget
We tried to roughly budget each area and stick to it as best we could.

How did you choose your photographer
Kit was the photographer at our friend’s wedding and got on with us really well. Once I saw his photos I thought his work was amazing and the fact he’s young too really appealed to us as his photos have a modern twist.

Theme or Colour Scheme
Theme was friendly/English vintage shabby chic and colour scheme lilac.

Flowers
Mix of roses, peonies, lavender, baby breath and thistles.

Decoration
We wanted to keep it simple and chic. The centre pieces were antique books stacked up with a floral arrangement in milk bottles, we went for hessian runners, lots of bunting and fairy lights/lanterns.

Special Moments
Walking down the aisle with my dad, saying our vowels and the speeches. My uncle had also recorded a very sweet and touching message from my gran who could not be there on the day – it meant a lot to us.

Advice to other couples
Just enjoy every second even the planning. It may get stressful but enjoy the time you spend with your bridesmaids. On the day take a moment together to step back and watch everyone around you.

Biggest surprise
The compliments and generosity from all our friends and family we had some lovely comments about the food, venue and photographer.
