Kevin and Costa’s Intimate and Personal Art Loving Wedding. By David Walters Photography

It’s the middle of the week already, isn’t this week just flying by, I do hope the weather is still nice where you are. We have had some lovely weddings on the blog this week so far and today I have another one for you, this fab same-sex wedding from David Walters Photography. Kevin and Costa chose an intimate day full of personal touches such as comic book confetti, paper flowers and some fab custom-made cup cakes, which I just love! A gorgeous day for an equally gorgeous couple.

‘We wanted it to be really personal with lots of our own individual touches – it was relaxed, intimate and informal with all our loved ones together having a good time without a lot of the stereotypical wedding traditions.’

Kevin and Costa were married on 14th February 2015 at The Bluecoat. ‘We love art and visited the Bluecoat quite often. Kevin bought the engagement ring from there too. We thought it was the perfect venue and liked the idea that all the profits made on the day went back into the arts charity. We had 30 of our closest friends and family at the ceremony and 75 at the reception. Costa moved here in September and couldn’t work so we spent that time planning all the details and getting everything locked in. It took about 5 months to plan.’

How they met
We met on a dating app while Costa was living in Sydney Australia & Kevin in Liverpool. We have been together since September 2013.

The Proposal
Kevin planned an elaborate proposal filled with clues, a taxi ride, the “Liverpool Eye” and a beautiful engagement ring.

How did you allocate your budget
We had a total budget which we stuck to and then divided out accordingly across everything needed – our main priority were the Photographer, Videographer, Band & Catering.

How did you choose your photographer
We wanted someone who didn’t take the normal wedding set up shots but rather told the story of the day. After a lot of research we found David Walters Photography and fell in love with his photography style. We made the perfect decision and the photos we got back are a testament to his eye for artfully capturing the best moments and bringing out the emotions of the day.

The Suit
We knew what look we wanted and “picked and mixed” the different pieces as we found them – combination of Topman, Debenhams, Mr Porter & Converse (for the custom shoes!)

Theme or Colour Scheme
We wanted everything to be really simple but have touches of all our favourite things including comic book confetti, lots of candles, paper flowers, mini easels for signage, bunting and fairy lights.

Flowers
We wore silk flowers as buttonholes which were burgandy with white polka dots. We also had paper flowers decorating the room which tied in with this colour scheme.

Decoration
We had comic book confetti, tea lights in jars, paper flowers, mini easels for signage, bunting, vintage wooden wine crates and fairy lights.

Food
We had a bbq as a nod to the Australian guests!

Wedding Cake
We got 80 custom cupcakes made from Say it with Flours which were decorated to tell our story – things like kangaroos, liverbirds, our faces and wedding outfits!
We also had a sweet bar where guests were free to go up and help themselves to a bag of our favourite sweets!

Entertainment
We hired a band called PHD who sung pop rock – both classics and modern. They were amazing and really got the guests into it! The guitarist Paul also accompanied our friend Emily singing us down the aisle so was very special for us.
We also had a photobooth for guests which allowed them to dress up and take a funny photo which was then added to an album for us to take away on the night.

Buy or DIY your Stationery
We got our invitations designed from a supplier on Etsy, the guest book we had custom made with our names engraved on the wooden cover.

Personal or Handmade Touches
We cut out our own confetti out of comic books we had purchased, all the paper flowers were put together by us and we hand painted all the easels which we used as signage for the sweet bar, wedding book etc. We also had a “Message in a bottle” where guests were invited to write us a message and place it in one of four bottles which we would open on our anniversary. The bottles were labelled 1, 5, 10 & 20 years.

Special Moments
Our dear friend Emily came all the way from Australia and sang us down the aisle to “Old Soul” by Thea Gilmore. It was a beautiful moment as we both love that song so much!
The moment we were pronounced husband & husband was pretty amazing – to think of us living on different sides of the world and all the things we went through to get to this moment – was obviously meant to be!

Advice to other couples
Don’t stress about what others do or what you think you should do. It will be the best day of your life so keep it simple and personal – filled with all of your favourite things and people. Try and relax and not worry about other people, the day goes so fast take a moment together to take it all in and enjoy it!
Also don’t be nervous as everyone is there for you on the day which is a really special thing!

Biggest surprise
Just how much love there was in the room – everyone felt it and you can see it in the photos and video. We have had so many comments about how great the day was and I think it came down to being true to ourselves and not doing anything that wasn’t us or done just for tradition.
