Yay it’s Friday, thank Crunchie and all that! I hope you have all had a good week? Have you got anything fun planned for the weekend? I have no weddings this week and no bridal meetings, so I am making the most of it and am off to see one of my best friends tomorrow and then Sunday I’m going to spend editing some photos I’ve taken recently with my new VSCO purchase! But for now it’s still Friday so it’s time for another real wedding! Today’s couple got married in a castle and then held their reception in an old school! Thanks to Taylor Young Photography for the images.
Nora and Pete were married on 15th June at Lewes Castle with the reception at Northease Manor School, Lewes in East Sussex. ‘We looked around everywhere in East Sussex, we originally wanted to do the reception in a barn but they are super expensive. So we decided to go for the old school and it’s beautiful hall and gardens. The castle was actually Pete’s choice. He loved the view and convinced me that the price is okay. We had 75 guests. We booked the venue a year in advance and only got really stressed a couple of months before the date. Pete is quite into organising and research – that made things easier.’
How they met
We met travelling. In a hostel in Rio de Janeiro. We have been together for 4 years.
Why did you choose your photographer?
We searched online for quite a while and got frustrated as the only ones we liked were really expensive. I had already contacted the local university for photography students when I found Taylor’s site. We really liked his style and when we met him and Shaan, his wife and second photographer, the decision was made!
The dress
My dress was tailor made by a Miranda Mather who is based in Brighton. My shoes are from Rachel Simpson, the hairpiece from a girl who sells her jewellery online. I bought the bracelet in the FAIR boutique in Brighton and the earrings were a gift of my bridesmaid.
The suit and bridesmaids
The suit is from a Calvin Klein outlet shop and the bridesmaid organised her own dress (Zara). In Germany that is normal – having just one bridesmaid and her choosing the dress.
Theme or colour scheme
We had a lot of yellow and white for the flowers and the bunting but we also had the German/English theme for the photo booth.
Decoration
We had bunting, flowers and fairy lights and we decorated our photo booth.
Personal touches / DIY
We made a wooden bar sign and a sign for our photo booth. We also did all the bunting ourselves and sewed together some friendlier looking versions of both the English and German flag.
Food
We had a barbecue and for dessert the cakes our friends baked in a cake competition. The cake competition was great. The barbecue was really informal.
Entertainment
We had a Spanish guitarist for the drinks after the ceremony, we had a lot of games in the garden and a band for the evening.
Flowers
We wanted it to look like you have just picked them yourself. We had them in green, white and yellow and they looked amazing.
Advice
Do all the creative things yourself and give emails and phone calls to your future husband. Makes for a happy bride.
Biggest surprise
Our friends organized a Gangman Style flash mob on the dancefloor. The second biggest surprise was the fact that my granddad was dancing in the first row.
