Sarah and Neil’s Informal Beach Wedding. By Zoe Campbell

I just love today’s wedding and when a wedding is set on a beach in the UK what’s not to love? Sarah and Neil pulled together a totally relaxed and informal wedding, by holding the ceremony on Calgary Beach with the reception in a local village hall, both on the isle of Mull. With DIY decorations and lots of homemade touches this wedding is just lovely. The wedding is full of smiles and has been captured perfectly by the highly talented Zoe Campbell Photography.

It was an informal, vintage-esque, rustic outdoor wedding. A smiley and overwhelming day full of lots of beauty.

Sarah and Neil were married on the 14th of September on Calgary Beach followed by a reception at Craignure village hall, Isle of Mull. ‘Neil’s parents live on Mull, we fell in love on our visits to Mull, with each other and the island. Neil also popped the question when we were on Mull, at Loch Ba, surrounded by lots of midges! We had 130 guests and we got married just over a year after we got engaged. It was a busy time though as I was completing a thesis so we didnt spend all that time planning!’

Why did you choose your photographer?
Our original photographer Jen Owens fell pregnant and recommended a group of people to us. We checked them out and Zoe was one of our favourites. I called her and instantly felt very comfortable with her.

The dress
I bought my dress second hand from bliss, in Edinburgh. Then Gemma Sargent who is a fantastic designer, altered the hideous neck line on my original dress and made me a beautiful top to wear over the dress.

The suit and bridesmaids
Suit from Reiss and bridesmaids dresses were from Ted Baker.

Theme or colour scheme
We didn’t have one really , I didn’t want it to look too contrived.

Flowers
Natural looking beautiful colourful arrangements by the AMAZING Pyrus, based in Edinburgh.

Decoration
All DIY. Home made strings of love hearts, big paper lanterns, papier-mâché birds hanging from ceiling, other birds cut out and stuck on walls, lots of arty friends were made the most of, and a homemade arch covered in Rowan berries.

Food
We had soup, then roast beef or veggie haggis then mango cheesecake or bread and butter pud. The craignure inn on mull did an amazing job and the staff were delightful.

Wedding Cake
Our cake was made by a very close friend.

Entertainment
Maz O’conner, a friend, sang for us on the beach and after dinner. And Pete Lomond, another friend, performed some magic. Then we had a playlist we had created ourselves so we could just dance to our favourite songs.

Special moments or highlights
Getting ready in morning, arriving on the beach and waving at the guests, my mum’s speech, all the speeches, dancing to Beyoncé, paddling in the sea post-ceremony and being alone at the end of the day

Advice for other couples
Although I loved the DIY aspect, the day before wedding was a bit busy/stressful so get as much help as possible and try not to be too controlling. I wish I’d left it to others and just relaxed. But just stay in the moment and go with the flow and enjoy.
