Boho Pins: Outdoor Ceremony

Welcome along to another edition of Boho Pins, where I delve into my pinterest board collection and choose one to share with you. If you’re planning a wedding then pinterest is the perfect visual planning tool. Fantastic for putting ideas together and keeping all your ideas organised! Today I am looking at Outdoor ceremonies. I LOVE an outdoor ceremony out in the open air, at one with nature and no restrictions with venues. As a planner I get involved with lots of couples looking for an outdoor wedding, I even had one myself! However in the UK we are limited to having them because of our stupid marriage laws. Unlike the US the building you get married in has to be a licensed building, where as in the US it’s the person marrying you that holds the licence. Because of this we are often restricted to getting married in churches, registry offices or licensed buildings such as country manors and hotels. There are more alternative venues now obtaining licenses though, like disused swimming pools, old cinemas and beach huts. The only way that you can legally get married outside in the UK is by getting married in something like a band stand, a free-standing building with a fixed roof, so no marquees! However a lot of couples these days are choosing to hold an outdoor blessing or humanist ceremony instead so having the wedding they want. Unfortunately though these aren’t technically legal, so it requires the couple to do what I like to call ‘the paperwork’ (legal ceremony) in a much smaller fashion in the local town hall or registrar office before the blessing or afterwards. I am hoping that in time the laws will be relaxed as getting married outside is such a lovely option! You can see my full Outdoor Ceremony pinterest board HERE.
