Today I am taking you off to what could be mistaken for the Scottish highlands...

Today’s wedding is full of gorgeous September Sunshine, and has one of the most smiley couples I have seen for a long time! The smiles have been caught by the wonderful Jacqui Mcsweeney who has captured this beautiful Brighton wedding in a light, bright and incredibly cheery fashion. I am just loving the brides dress, the grooms suit, his glasses (I need a pair of those in my life) the dancing and the wonderful couple shots that really make the most of the Brighton scenery!
The lovely couple are Adele and Ian who were married on 8th September the ceremony was held at the Church of the Sacred Heart, Hove and the reception was at The Pavilion at Sussex County Cricket Club, Hove for 105 guests, it took 6 months to plan. ‘Brighton is our home and we love it here so it was the obvious choice to get married here.’
How they met
We met in 1998 at Surfside Backpackers in Sydney, Australia. We fell for one another immediately, but it took 13 years before circumstances allowed us to be together again. When we finally met up again in March 2011, Maki put all his cards on the table and professed that he had loved me all this time…I felt the same but totally played it cool…until date two!
The proposal
The proposal happened at 6am in the morning on a cold and frosty morning in November 2011, with a champagne picnic as the sun was rising over Brighton Beach. I was so surprised and happy that I laughed for at least 10 minutes!
The dress
My dress and the veil were made by my Mum. I’ve always loved the ballet style dress and the unusual veil that Audrey Hepburn wears in the 50s film Funny Face and was lucky enough to have an extremely brilliant Mum who was able to re-create something similar for me. The shoes were from Kurt Geiger.
The suit and bridesmaids
The bridesmaid dresses were so difficult to find. I wanted something fun, fresh and 50s so when I eventually found the baby blue 50s polka dot dresses online I knew they were perfect. Makis Airforce Blue suit was suit was from a shop in the Brighton Lanes.
Theme /colour scheme
We just wanted the day to reflect us. We enjoy jive dancing and I like cute 50s stuff and girly colours so I think the style of the day was perfect for us.
Food
Bangers and Mash followed by Brighton Rock Cupcakes from Angel Food Bakery. In the evening it was different Breads, Cheeses and Pickles.
Entertainment
In the church we had a string quartet, a choir and two soloists which my Mum had arranged as she’s a musician. In the evening we had a lovely DJ called Jethro Baker.
Flowers
I had no idea what flowers we should have but our florist Kate Langdale was fantastic, her work has an extremely pretty and vintage style to it. After explaining the style of dresses she suggested white roses for me plus buttonholes, pink roses for the bridesmaid and gypsophila for the tables.
Decoration
The team at the cricket club were great and made it really simple for us to set up the night before with the help of our friends Johann and Phil. We arranged the table centres of bottles with gypsophila, jars with candles. We then hung some of the obligatory bunting (but it’s so pretty), and put up the mega long fair lights. It was a lovely chilled few hours, and we really enjoyed seeing it all come together
Personal touches/DIY
• The invites were made by our friend Ray who’s a fantastic designer. We sent him some silly photo booth pictures of us and he created a very pretty and unique invite. Another fiend kindly printed them for us
• Our table centres were made from old bottles and jars which we collected with the help of friends and family and our local pub. We tied gingham ribbon around the top of the jars and then added the tea lights and ordered a huge bunch of gypsophila to put in bottles
• I found blackboard type stickers which I cut to size and stuck on the front and back of the bottles. We then hand wrote in a chalk pen the table number and the menu.
Special moments
The whole day was amazing, from the moment we saw each other in the church through to the last dance which was hilarious! It’s beyond wonderful having everyone you love in one place at one time.
In the evening we took ten minutes away from everything to reflect on the day, it was a really lovely moment for us both.
Advice
Keep it simple and have everything is in place for the day so that you can just kick back, relax and enjoy it all. Grab a moment together in the evening to take it all in.
Biggest surprise
The weather! After a wash out of a summer the week of our wedding was glorious sunshine. We were so thrilled as we really wanted all out guests to experience Brighton in all it’s glory. It also meant we could go to the beach for a few pictures where everyone made a fuss of us, honking horns, clapping and cheering, it was really funny.
The biggest surprise of all was how much we enjoyed it all.
