Christmas DIY Tutorial: Create a Scandi Inspired Christmas Centrepiece

Now we are into December it’s safe to say that Christmas is just round the corner, so what better way to celebrate than with a brand new Christmas DIY project. As you are probably aware, I absolute adore Christmas, so when I got chatting with Tracey from Campbell’s flowers and we reminisced about the last DIY project we did together we both agreed that we needed to do a new one! I was so excited for a day full of floristry, talking flowers, wedding trends and all things Christmas. We invited Meg from Fox Moon Photography to join us and she did an amazing job of documenting the process. Tracey came up with this stunning Scandi Inspired design which would be perfect for any Christmas table, I am absolutely delighted with the finished outcome! It was pretty simple to do, so I highly recommend you get your craft on and get inspired by Tracey’s beautiful creations.

Christmas is Coming!

Create a Scandi Inspired Centrepiece this Christmas with Kelly, Tracey & Meg.

I’ll pass you over to Tracey

What a wonderful day we had together. A huge thank you to my lovely friend Kelly for inviting me to collaborate on this festive project, and to the amazing Meg from Fox Moon Photography for capturing it all so beautifully. It was such a joy spending the day with two inspiring women, supporting one another, sharing creativity and experiences.

We all hope this post inspires you to create something personal, unique and full of festive joy and hopefully a Christmas table arrangement that becomes part of your family memories for years to come.

A Boho Luxe Christmas Table

For this collaboration we created a Scandi inspired, sustainable, foam free and long lasting Christmas centrepiece that brings fragrance, texture and a relaxed sense of luxury to your home. All the materials are super accessible and easy to access through your local florist or even back garden, if you’re lucky enough to have a few bits and pieces you can cut.

During the workshop session. I guided Kelly step by step through the process as we worked together to design a nature inspired table arrangement using the best of what’s fresh and seasonal, along with carefully chosen dried materials.

To complete the look, I styled a Christmas table with glowing candles, ribbon tied napkins and natural accents, to help inspire how to elevate completed designs. Once we added our arrangements, the table came alive with that Boho Luxe wedding styling we both love, the epitome of relaxed, elegant and perfectly festive vibes.

How to Make Your Own Sustainable Foam Free Christmas Arrangement

If you’d like to bring a touch of eco friendly festive styling to your home this season, here’s how to create your own sustainable Christmas flowers arrangement, simple, stylish and naturally luxurious.

You’ll Need

  • Waterproof container
  • Chicken wire (for your base)
  • String or florist scissors
  • 2 stems hydrangea
  • 5 stems birch
  • 3 stems pussy willow
  • 3 stems yew
  • 2 stems cypress fir
  • 3–4 stems ivy
  • 2 -3 stems of berries (we used rose hips)
  • Decorative touches like pine cones, dried fruit, seed pods, or cinnamon sticks

Step by Step Guide

  1. Prepare your base

Choose a waterproof container and fill it with chicken wire to support your stems. It’s the perfect foam free floral design technique that’s kind to the planet and easy to use.

  1. Build your shape

  1. Add your greenery first to create the outline of your design. We shaped ours into a soft, meadowy form for a natural flow. We used Cupressus for texture and depth.
  1. Introduce contrast

  2. Mix in Yew to give structure, scent and that traditional Christmas feel. The variety of foliage adds richness and a relaxed, organic look.
  1. Add height and texture

  2. Layer in birch and pussy willow to give your arrangement height and movement. Their delicate lines create that airy Scandi inspired décor that feels effortless and modern. They also add height without blocking your view of the person sitting opposite you.
  1. Add statement blooms and festive details

  2. Place hydrangea blooms opposite each other for balance, then add berries and your choice of pine cones, dried fruit, seed pods or cinnamon sticks for warmth and seasonal charm.
  1. Style your table

  2. Use festive tones. Add linen napkins tied with ribbon and subtle greenery for a Boho Luxe Christmas table that feels personal and inviting.

Bringing Nature to the Table

This Scandi inspired, sustainable Christmas arrangement celebrates everything that’s beautiful about the season — fragrant evergreens, natural textures and mindful design. It’s foam free, long lasting and filled with warmth, perfect for a relaxed yet luxurious Christmas at home.

Thank you for reading, and I hope you’ve felt sufficiently inspired to create a beautiful design to wow your guests and be proud of.
