Happy Friday everyone! I hope you are ready for the weekend, maybe you have something festive planned? Nik, Dexter and I are off on a Christmas light trail on Saturday evening, Sunday we are putting the decorations up, what about you? I have a glorious wedding for you today, Maison and Chad were married on 21st June 2025 at The Hitching Post Ranch Lancaster, Ohio and it’s a wedding filled to the brim with amazing homemade details and bursting with colour. Kendra the photographer says about the wedding, ‘Oh my goodness the artistic efforts that created the look for this wedding are unbeatable. Maison and Chad were married on a perfect June day at a horse ranch that overlooked a beautiful farming town in Ohio. Juxtapositioned to the rural background were the incredible details – hand designed by Maison for months leading up to wedding day. Every table setting, boutonniere, broach and bouquet were expertly created by the fashion design major. A setting that matched Chad’s energy and details that told Maison’s story. A wedding day love story that encompassed them both perfectly.’ Big thanks to OnFaith Photography for the wonderful photos.
How they met
We met in high school in 2017. We actually lived 40 minutes away from each other, but I saw him on Instagram and liked one of his posts. Then, he sent me a DM. The rest is history! He proposed to me last summer on the beach while we were on vacation!
The outfits
My wedding dress is incredible similar to my moms, which was intentional. I originally wanted to wear a color other than white, because I LOVE color. I don’t like boring or ordinary things, and I have always been bold. I chose a simpler dress and bold accessories so that I still felt like a bride. I took fabric from my moms gauntlets that she wore on her wedding day and wrapped it around the stems of my bouquet with an “E” brooch to represent my maiden name still being a part of me. I also wore a vintage blue sapphire bracelet that my grandmother loaned me to wear, which my cousin also wore at her wedding. I had a custom made veil with colorful floral embroidery to add color, and my “something blue” was a pair of blue feather gloves I handmade. I had a second look as well, it was a 20’s flapper style beaded below the knee gold shift dress. I loved it so much! My husband decided he wanted to wear a mallard feather bowtie- so I used feathers in many other aspects of our wedding to tie it all together!
Theme or colour scheme
I did a really bad job choosing a color palette, because I love every color! My bridesmaids picked out whatever dress they wanted in whatever color they wanted, they were all different but looked SO good together! I pulled a lot of inspiration from vintage elements such as real vintage post cards and using my parents engraved cake cutting knife for our cake. I wanted to include aspects that were a nod to my parents wedding because they taught me what a healthy marriage looks like and ultimately led me to my husband.
Decoration
Every aspect of our decor was DIY, including the table runners that I hand-dyed because I wasn’t satisfied with any color I could buy. I also hand dyed doilies a bright pink color to go on my tables! I used vintage postcards with love notes on them that I thrifted on tables. I configured vintage fishing lures in the decorations, and even some in the florals as well. I also used vintage playing cards to decorate. There are honestly too many things to list, because everything was DIY! I just was not satisfied with anything I saw for sale, so I decided to make it all on my own. I took an old window and used stained glass paint to create a welcome sign. I spent 3 months making a backdrop from cutting up and tying together fabric scraps from old clothing and pillowcases!
Flowers
I decide early on that I wanted to make my own (faux) florals for my wedding party and for myself. I handmade all of the bridesmaid bouquets, all of the groomsmen boutonnieres, and my bouquet. I also made each member of our family a unique corsage or boutonniere with a unique brooch on each of them. I used touches of white Cala lilies throughout my bouquet, along with the boutonnieres I made for my brother and my dad because my mom carried white Cala Lillies at her wedding when she married my dad. I used florals on each table and throughout the reception area that I made using tea tins and floral foam! We did rent florals from something borrowed blooms for the bigger florals, such as the florals used on my arch and on the fireplace.
Personal touches
I tried to personalize every single part of my wedding, not just for myself and my husband, but my guests as well. Our favors were vintage styled brooches that guests could wear to match the brooches in the florals of the wedding party and parents. I had open seating so that guests could sit where they pleased.
Special Moments
The thing that I had been waiting for since 2017- to be able to call the man who I had been in love with since I was 17 years old my husband. Everything else could’ve gone wrong, and I would’ve been okay, as long as he was still going to be my husband. That’s what it’s all about anyway. The wedding was beautiful, but he has and always will be the prize.
Tips for other couples
Don’t forget that your wedding should be a reflection of yourself and your partner! My style is definitely not everyone’s cup of tea- but that’s okay, because I was for my husband and I at the end of the day. Your guests will love the small details! Let your partner wear what they want if you are wearing what you want. You should both feel like a million bucks! Invest in a wedding planner, or at least a day-of coordinator! There were apparently several things that went wrong on my wedding day, but I did not even know until after my wedding because of my planner!
