Rachel and David’s ‘Boho But Make it Black’ Fall Wedding with a Halloween Twist

Today we are celebrating Halloween and autumn all in one gorgeous wedding, with this stunning black themed wedding. Rachel and David were married on 10th October 2021 in Philadelphia. The main theme of their day was ‘Boho But Make it Black’. Neither of them are fans of white, so instead of having something they didn’t like in their day they incorporated their favourite colour black. They mixed this with lots of seasonal decorations like pampas grass and pumpkins with accents of terracotta. The results are this stunning outdoor fall wedding, filled with some lovely decoration and a very happy couple. Big thanks to Laura Gares Photography for the wonderful photos and to Brides & Tailor LLC for the gorgeous submission.

How they met/the proposal
As some like to say, right person wrong time. We met at a party and we both were seeing different people. After a few months we reconnected on social media and became friends and would talk here and there. Fast forward 3 years into our relationship. It was a beautiful winter day, it honestly felt more like fall. We were walking around Valley Forge National Park with our friend. We were standing on a hill in front of a monument getting ready to take pictures and that’s when he got down on one knee and proposed. The rest is history.

The outfits
We both agreed right off the bat, white was not an option. We always have loved all black, so why should this be any different? When looking for inspo, we loved how the all black look, looked, so we ran with it. He wore an all black tux, with satin lining, a black dress shirt and black suspenders. She wore a black dress that had a corset back, lace sleeves/chest, buttons on the sleeves and an A line frame.

Theme or colour scheme
The theme of our wedding was boho but make it black! We are not very traditional and didn’t want to follow all of the traditional wedding things. Our colour pallet was black, terracotta, tan and sage green. We both agreed white was not our look. We didn’t think it would flatter us and make us feel the most beautiful/handsome as we could.

Decoration
Decorations for the ceremony began with the entrance to the aisle. We had barn doors set up with mums, Pampas grass, pumpkins and logs. Down the aisle we had jugs with pampass grass. At the end of the aisle we had a wooden arch, with lanterns and more jugs of pampass grass. Our reception area didn’t need much decorating, the venue was beautiful on its own. But we did have more pampass and succulents on the tables.

Flowers
We mainly had dried floral, pampass grass, palm leaves, bunny tails, wheat etc. Our center pieces included succulents which were also the wedding favors. The dried florals gave off boho vibes, which we were going for.

Personal touches
Instead of a typical guest book, we had Polaroid cameras that you would take a photo and sign it and write a little something next to it. Our favourite part was instead of a typical photo booth we had a photo op area that had a couch and decor to take pictures with friends and families at.

Advice for other couples
My advice would be, it’s never too early to start planning. The more you do now, the less you’ll have to do later. The wedding is your special day, if you want to do something non traditional go for it! Don’t let peoples opinions stop you from doing you! Also things happen and don’t go as plan, but you just have to ride it out. Ultimately all that matters is that you have each other and it’s a bond you can never replace.

Special moments
One of the most anticipated/special moments was our first look. It really didn’t feel real until that moment. So much chaos was going on around us, it was nice to be able to just hug and relax for a second. Funny story, well not so funny story, we got to the venue and everything was great, we were on time and ahead of schedule. But then Rachel got a call that our dog had escaped the house and was loose but someone caught her. For obvious reasons we couldn’t see each other and figure it out so the panic really set in. In the end it did all end up getting worked out. But of course our dog had to make it about her and it’s a memory we for sure will never forget.
