Lauren and Adam’s Yellow Wedding with a Candy Anthony Dress By Ed Godden Photography

Hello everyone and welcome back to the blog. I do hope you had a good bank holiday and that the extra day off has left you feeling rested and ready for the 4 day week ahead! We have a real treat to start off this week as Ed Godden Photography has been kind enough to share this lovely sunshine yellow wedding with us. This gorgeous day is set in the heart of the Derbyshire countryside and it features the most gorgeous Candy Anthony dress, with a wonderful yellow petticoat, which follows the yellow theme of this fun filled day. With lots of daisies and sunflowers to decorate the venue this wedding is bound to put a smile on your face.

‘It truly was the best day of our lives. It was the only day where we had everyone we wanted in the same place sharing our special day with us’

Lauren and Adam were married on 22nd August 2015 at St Mary’s Church in Derby followed by a
reception at Osmaston Park Nr Ashbourne, Derbyshire. ‘I’m a Catholic so it was really important for us to get married in a Catholic church. We knew straight away that we didn’t want a traditional hotel style wedding and reception. After visiting various wedding venues, we fell in love with Osmaston Park immediately. We visited it on a cold, wet, rainy day and despite there being only a few broken pallets in the place of the marquee, it just felt ‘right’! We had 110 guests in the day followed by approximately another 100 in the evening. Wedding planning took approximately 18 months’

How they met
We met on a night out in Derby having both shared a mutual friend. Adam thought his shirt had the same pattern as my dress (it didn’t)! It was around a year before we ‘officially’ got together and we’ve been together ever since for 8 years.

The Proposal
Since living together Adam started a Christmas tradition where he gave a gift to me during each day of advent, such as chocolate, make up, trips away, etc. During Christmas 2013, one of the Advent gifts had been a trip to London and a visit to Winter Wonderland. The trip was pretty disastrous with torrential rain causing Winter Wonderland to close and a leaking hotel roof causing a hotel room move during the night. Waking up on Christmas eve, feeling tired and annoyed Adam gave the final Advent gift to me. The gift was a large box. Thinking it was a pair of shoes, I opened it to find two champagne glasses, an empty ring box (with a tag saying “Let’s go shopping”) and scrabble letters spelling out, “Will you marry me?”

How did you allocate your budget
We prioritised items that were important to us; venue, photographer, band and ALCOHOL. Luckily we didn’t have too many critical budgetary decisions to make.

Where did you splurge and where did you save
The venue was one of our biggest splurges as it truly was a blank canvas. We’d also been to numerous weddings and really enjoyed live music, so for us, a band was a must!
We were able to save money by doing all the decorations ourselves. We were lucky to have a sister in law who provided us with all of the wedding stationary and our friend made our cake. Although a large amount was spent on alcohol, the venue allowed us to provide our own with no corkage fees.

How did you choose your photographer
Choosing a photographer was very important to us, as we wanted a photographer who had a natural style and made us feel relaxed. Ed was perfect as he understood exactly what we wanted and didn’t infringe on our ability to enjoy the wedding day.

The Dress
Dress was by Candy Anthony with a last minute lace top made by my aunty! Shoes were from Clarks.

The Suit and Bridesmaids
Suits were from the Ted Baker range at Moss Bros.
Bridesmaid dresses were from New Look.

Theme or Colour Scheme
We started off by being unable to decide on a theme or colour scheme but once we had decided on the venue the colours and theme developed into a happy yellow sunshine theme.

Flowers
We chose sunflowers and daisies to match our happy yellow theme. We wanted them to be colourful and vibrant. We definitely wouldn’t recommend daisies in a buttonhole on a hot day though…they didn’t last long!

Decoration
The venue was completely blank meaning we were able to decorate it as we wanted, which was perfect. We had lots of bunting, jam jars and things scattered around that were just ‘us’, such as cricket bats, photographs, vintage sewing machines. We also wanted to make our wedding cater for the children invited so we set up a play area with lots of toys which they loved…right next to the sweet table.

Food
The venue recommended a local catering company called Upper Crust. They provided us with a three course meal, which the guests didn’t have to choose their options until the wedding day. In the evening they served sausage cobs, mini chip cones and a cheese board.

Wedding Cake
We wanted the wedding cake to match our theme. We were lucky enough to have a friend’s mother who makes cakes, unfortunately unbeknown until the wedding day she was unable to make the cake due to a broken bone. Fortunately for us, our friend stepped in to make the cake and did a great job. The same can’t be said for both our father’s who managed to damage the cake during transportation, although they still won’t accept liability to this day!

Entertainment
We had a band called the Tunes Junkies who played during our arrival drinks and then did another set in the evening. They were really good and got everyone up and dancing, resulting in lots of knee slides and ripped trousers. We also hired a VW camper van that had been turned into a photo booth, this provided us with lots of funny photos after!

The Stationery
We were really lucky to have a talented sister in law that helped us with all of our stationary and did a great job.

Personal or Handmade Touches
We wanted our wedding to reflect us so we had lots of personal touches. We had lots of photographs, quotes and memorabilia that represented who we are. Very early into planning the wedding we bought some vintage step ladders that we made into a Jagerbomb ladder. The jagerbombs went down a little too well but every wedding should have one!

Special Moments
There are too many to pick out as the whole day was a highlight for us both.

Advice to other couples
It’s your wedding day, enjoy it!

Biggest surprise
The weather had been unpredictable for weeks beforehand so we assumed we would get rain. We woke up to bright blue skies, the sun shining and heat. In the late afternoon we had the craziest thunder, lightning and rain but it was just another fond memory of the day.
