Happy Bank Holiday weekend everyone and welcome to the beginning of a rather lovely long weekend. I hope you all have something fab planned for the Easter break, it’s going to be a fun packed four days for you all I hope. Today Kathleen from Parenthesis Photography is spoiling us with this beautifully shot Georgia Wedding. The wedding features the cutest first look and the most stunning BHLDN wedding dress, Enjoy!
Ruth and Nick were married on 21st November 2015. The ceremony was held at the Isle of Hope Marina pavilion, Savannah in Georgia The reception was held at Garibaldi’s Cafe. ‘We launch kayaks from the community dock, and it only seemed fitting to begin our next big adventure from the same spot! Plus, Bluff Drive is the most glorious little stretch of Savannah, with its avenue of Spanish moss-draped live oaks and grand homes. We had 70 guests in total and we invited guests on a month’s notice, before we had secured a single venue. I can be a bit impulsive. I should add that this was not a shotgun wedding, though, in Savannah, the marriage licenses are located right beside the pistol permits at the courthouse…’
How they met
We met at a neighbourhood Halloween party. We’ve been together for more than two years since the day he incorrectly identified what was obviously a Nancy Drew costume.
The Proposal
Nick proposed at an observation tower overlooking the Skidaway Narrows.
How did you allocate your budget
I’d say we spent 70% on the reception.
Where did you splurge and where did you save
We spent the most on the dinner, which was well worth the expense. I bought my dress second-hand on Tradesy, which was amazing because it contained most of the alterations I would have had to make myself – an angel of a seamstress took care of the rest.
How did you choose your photographer
I picked my photographer, Kathleen Telesco, years before I met Nick. After I saw one of her ethereal, high-concept fashion shoots, I had my heart set on hiring her!
The Dress
Dress BHLDN brand: Watter’s, Shoes: Vince Camuto, Blue cameo necklace: Princess Jewelry in Stafford, Earrings: Zia Boutique in Savannah, GA
The Suit and Bridesmaids
Groom’s Tux: Men’s Wearhouse
Bridesmaids: They chose their own dresses.
Theme or Colour Scheme
I asked the girls to wear blue, any shade.
Flowers
I wasn’t going to have flowers, as my bridesmaids all carried lanterns, but at the last moment my big sis talked sense into me. Two days before the wedding I called up John Wolf Florist and asked vaguely for a bouquet with white flowers. The florist said, “I know what you want,” and that was enough for me. I picked up the flowers, sight unseen.
Decoration
My husband decorated the pavilion with Christmas lights, ribbon, and orchids. He covered the chairs in white silk slips. Garibaldi’s is lovely as-is – think vaulted ceilings, mirrored walls, potted palms, and gold accents.
Food
Appetizers included fried green tomatoes and shrimp and grits (when in the South!). And we had surf and turf entrees – steak, whole flounder, etc.
Wedding Cake
Again, I was going to forego the cake (there are so many better deserts, and all of them on our menu!), but the night before the wedding, my sister and I hit up Publix Super Market at one minute before the close – we were the jerks who unclipped the cordon – and ran to the bakery and pointed out a white-ish cake. The clerk, understandably rather grumpy, smashed the lid down with a little more force than strictly necessary. It was coconut, I think.
Entertainment
The best band in Savannah – Charlie Fog, a Grateful Dead tribute band.
The Stationery
Wedding Paper Divas.
Personal or Handmade Touches
My dad made these adorable origami ducks for name cards. He said that the duck has symbolism in Korean marriages.
Special Moments
Oh, the best part was seeing all of the wonderful friends and family who made time, at the last minute, to be with us! Also, our harpist was divine.
Advice to other couples
Call your bank well before the ceremony to let them know that your dinner tab might be slightly higher than usual. Nick and I thought we were going to have to wash dishes on our wedding night.
Biggest surprise
That everything worked out!
