Make up trends for Boho inspired Weddings Spring & Summer 2015…How to create the perfect bridal make-up look to compliment pastel colours…

Spring and Summer Make Up Trends

I’ll pass the blog over to Julia……….

Spring will soon be upon us, with many boho inspired Weddings picking up on a popular trend: pastels. With the Brides dress in pale delicate lace and bridesmaids in light and airy pastels, how do you create a natural long-lasting glowing make-up look to suit all skin tones without looking pale and washed out?

Creating the perfect base

Bridal make-up needs to have enough colour to compensate for the paleness of the dress. There’s a big difference between everyday clothes and a Wedding dress, so there should be a difference in the make-up too.
I like to sit the Bride in natural light and start by making sure the skin looks smooth and even. The first step is using a great moisturiser that matches the skin type. For example if a Bride has oily skin, go for a moisturiser such as ‘Active Moist’ by Dermalogica‘ which is oil free and acts as oil control primer.

Get Glowing

A primer base is the next step. I use ‘Mac’s Prep and Prime Natural Radiance‘ that adds a much needed glow and hydration to the skin, allowing the foundation to stay in place all day. This is one of my favourite products and it suits all most skin types.
If the foundation blends seamlessly into the jawline then it’s the perfect colour and tone. I find a light reflective and dewy base is more flattering on the skin than going for a matt finish, if prone to shine then a matt blotting powder can be used in key area’s such as forehead, nose and chin. To keep the cheeks slightly dewier, use a sheer loose powder.

Emphasise the eyes in spring pastels

I love the pastel trend for spring with matt eye shadows in soft colours such as sea greens, lilacs, peaches and corals which perfectly complement the muted pastel colour tones of boho inspired Weddings. So that pastel shades stay true to their colour, I create a longwearing eye base using ‘Benefit’s ‘Stay Don’t Stray’. Follow it with a covering of vanilla matt eye shadow and a flat white highlighter under the brow bone, avoiding shimmer which will reflect shine in photographs.
When using pastel shades, I add depth to the eyes with a complementary darker shade blended on the outer corners of the lid, leaving the pastel to brighten the inner corners – making the eyes pop!   Also, try keeping the colour close to the lash line. To emphasise the eyes, use a matt taupe shadow in the crease and blend well.
For those wanting to go for a more classic bridal look, opt for an eye shadow colour in taupe shades or warmer golden browns.

Define the eyes

Finally, to balance the softness of pastel eye makeup, define and shape the brows using a soft matt shadow and brow gel that matches the hair colour. Then, curl the eyelashes using eyelash curlers and a brown/black or black (waterproof!) liner and mascara. To add extra definition I recommend adding individual lashes to the outer corners or going for natural strip lashes such as ‘Eyelure Naturalites

A Brides make-up is not complete without a pretty flush of colour on the cheeks! I apply a neutral shade to the cheekbones and a pop of brighter colour on the apples. For mature and dry skin I highly recommend a long-lasting cream blusher to give a dewy glow and powder blusher for an oiler skin. Rose pinks, peach and coral shades are great choices for Brides, not forgetting a light sweeping of bronzer on the forehead, nose, and cheekbones, where the sun naturally hits your face. To finish, a highlighter can be used high on the cheekbones and temples for an extra glow.

I highly recommend ‘Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream‘ as it softens the driest of lips. I usually allow the product to melt into the lips whilst I make-up the rest of the face. I then apply a neutral lip liner and lip primer to prepare the lips for a cream or matt lipstick in a pretty colour to compliment the look.
