A sequined jacket for the bride and a gold tie for the groom should be more than enough to whet your wedding appetite this morning, but we have more in today’s real bride showcase to inspire you and give your middle of the week a little boost. When we received the photographs taken by Elisabeth and David’s photographer James Melia, we were instantly taken by the relaxed atmosphere and sense of calm around this wedding. From the pre-wedding preparations to the first dance, and the accents of bright yellow and golds, this is a truly happy wedding and I just know you are going to enjoy looking through it.
Elisabeth and David were married on 19th April at The Angel at Hetton with their reception at Cracoe Village Hall in North Yorkshire.“The village hall was perfect for creating our own wedding and a relaxed celebration”
How they met
We first met working at a supermarket and got together until a few years later. We’ve been together 10 years.
The proposal
Under the clock at Charing Cross Station, London after a very unromantic birthday/Halloween night out with friends, there was a lot of wine!
How did you allocate your budget?
David is an Accountant so introduced me to the world of spreadsheets! The largest part of the budget went on food, photographer, flowers, outfits and band.
How did you choose your photographer?
My bridesmaid Sarah, who is the founder of Leafy Couture, gave me lots of help and ideas including a list of great photographers. We knew straight away that James Melia Photographers were for us. Their photographs are informal, stylish and we hoped would capture the essence of our celebration.
The dress and accessories
The dress was by Coast and chosen by my son. Shoes were by Rachel Simpson, pearl earrings were by Katherine Swain; headpiece was loaned to me by Sarah and is a number of antique brooches and combs fitted together. I also wore a gold bracelet and gold and pearl necklace.
The suit and bridesmaids
Blue Ted Baker suit with white shirt and pale gold tie. Bridesmaid Sarah wore dark blue satin dress by Untold, mustard yellow shoes by Rachel Simpson and gold pashmina from accessorize. Gold and white dress for my other bridesmaid Fay by Monsoon with white fur stole from Marks & Spencers and gold glitter shoes from Monsoon.
The theme
Yellow with hints of blue, white & gold
The flowers
Flowers in my bouquet were sweet peas, white and blue Muscari, Ranunculus, Freesia, Lily of the valley, eucalyptus and wax flower. We also had mini daffodils, moss and large blossom trees throughout the village hall.
The decoration
White & yellow paper lanterns, white festoon lighting, gold glitter balls, two large ‘D’ & ‘L’ light up letters, paper streamers, yellow and white chevron tables runners, gold candlesticks and gold tin lanterns
The food and wedding cake
Canapes, followed by a choice of chicken, steak & ale or homity pie with wedges and spring veg and then choice of puddings Eton mess, chocolate cake or sticky toffee pudding.
The cake was made by the Groom’s mum; three-tier Mary Berry decadent chocolate cake decorated with handmade glitter hearts & flowers.
The entertainment
Live northern soul band – The Fabulous BB Kings with disco afterwards.

Personal and handmade touches
It was Easter Saturday so we put on an Easter egg hunt and made felt chickens for the children. We made the chevron table runners, sprayed tin cans gold with hearts for outside lanterns and handmade gold heart confetti. We also had glow sticks & sparklers for all the guests, the glow sticks went down particularly well with the children
Special moments
We loved the intimacy of the Wine Cave and the two lady registrars really made the ceremony special. The views from Cracoe Village Hall with a beautiful sunset
First dance with our 2 children Fay & Evan who are 7 & 5 years
Advice to other couples
Allow plenty of time and Pinterest is a life saver for ideas and tips. DIY invitations, although personal, were time-consuming and not necessarily the cheapest option. Enjoy spending time with your guests.
Biggest surprise
How everything came together, better than we could have ever imagined. The flowers and decorations were fantastic Sarah and her team made the Village Hall look magical.
We can’t thank enough the service we got from Leafy Couture, James Melia Photographers and Jo Bilham Make up. They are all passionate about what they do and they made our day truly wonderful.
