Most of the weddings I feature on the blog are submitted to me by the photographer, however todays wedding has been submitted by the bride. When I received the email from Jennifer I knew straight away I had to share her wedding with you. The wedding is full of amazing details and with a rustic beach theme how could I refuse. On top of that the wedding ceremony takes place in a light house, which brings with it some amazing landscape shots! To top it all off both Jennifer and Greg are gorgeous! what a cute couple! How could I say no to such a fabulous wedding!!
Jennifer and Greg who were married on 16th March 2013 at St Marys Lighthouse Whitley Bay and The Boardwalk Café. ‘Our first ever date was at St Marys Lighthouse, I’m originally from the midlands and love the seaside so Greg decided to show me the sites. It seemed the perfect place for us and we love that it’s a unique wedding venue surrounded by natural beauty. The beach is only a few minute walk from our house too! We had 53 guests for the ceremony and only an extra ten or so for evening reception, it was booked a year in advance but I probably only spent 3 months planning.’
How they met
We have been together for 3 and a half years and met through a mutual friend.
The proposal
Greg proposed just before Christmas when I was 9 months pregnant! It was very sweet and romantic and we were simply cuddled up on the sofa and he bought out the ring. It was perfect for me as I really didn’t want a public proposal or anything flash.
How did you choose your photographer?
My friend recommended our photographers as they are friends of her family. We checked out their website and met up with them, they were beyond fantastic!
The dress
My dress was by Amanda Wyatt. Accessories from local boutiques and sandals from next. My flower crown was from a seller on etsy from San Francisco.
The suit and bridesmaids
Suit from next, our sons suits from marks and spencers and bridesmaids from Riess, I let them chose their own to match their personalities, but they had to be blue!
Theme or colour scheme
The theme was rustic beach with 50 shades of blue and a touch of spring yellow, all my best girlfriends from school wore blue too.
Food
We had a delicious sit down 3 course meal in the day followed by local fish and chips for evening reception served in quirky fish and chip boxes. Our cake was a krispy crème tower!
Entertainment
We had an amazing swing singer who did all the classic rat pack songs, Elvis and Michael buble. He then did our disco but we had provided him with the playlist of all our fav songs, and everyone was dancing all night long!
Flowers
I had a large head of blue hydrangea from Holland surrounded by wild wax flower, I loved my flowers so much, the shade of blue was perfect.
Decoration
We used shells, pebbles and drift wood that we collected off the beach, blue hurricane lanterns and random vases and jam jars with white and yellow flowers in, lace tied round duck egg blue napkins and lots of fairy lights and candles, it was very pretty and romantic.
Personal / DIY touches
As I have my own stationery business I made everything myself, the invitations, the order of the days, flower pom poms in the lighthouse, the message in a bottle favours, the table plan in rustic sand buckets, the place names tied with raffia round the wine glasses, the guestbook and my mum made the table number flags. We bought Chinese lanterns and set them off just as the sun was setting, it was stunning!
Special moments
The best part of the day for me was having such a good time with my new husband and friends and family. To see everyone laughing, dancing and letting their hair down was exactly what id aimed for, I felt it was a huge success. The speeches where incredible too, so funny!
Advice
I’d advise people to be a bit quirky and make the wedding suit your personalities, make it fun and imaginative! Spend less on the grand things and concentrate more on the little details. We wrote our own vows too and that was so special..
Biggest surprise
I was very nervous on the morning of the wedding so my friends and my mum had to decorate the restaurant venue without me, it was amazing walking in after we were married to see all the things I’d been working on for months come to life, I was very impressed with how they presented it! I was surprised with how easy the ceremony was too, I’d been nervous about speaking in front of our guests and possibly messing up the vows!
This is such a beautiful wedding, sopuch understated colors and an amazing location! Love it!
