After 2 days of sunny summer weddings I have a wonderful winter wedding for you today thanks to the lovely Jaye from Tux and Tales. This wedding comes from York and it shows off the city beautifully. I love it when brides and grooms take time with their couples shots during their wedding (something I wish I had done at my wedding) and Jaye always manages to catch the best of them! I am loving this brides natural smile, she is so full of laughter. As for her dress well Its stunning, don’t you agree?
Giselle and William who were married on 3rd November 2012. The ceremony was held at Bedern Hall, Bartle Garth, York with the Reception at The Grange Hotel, Clifton, York. ‘The feeling we got when we walked into the setting. We wanted something intimate, classic and low key, but special and a bit different. Bedern Hall ticked all those boxes. The Grange Hotel again felt a little bit different to all the standard hotels we had looked around, a bit quirky and we loved the fairy lights in the bar! We invited 60 guests for the day and 120+ for the evening. It took about 11 months to plan. We decided that 2012 was the year we wanted to do it, we made the decision on New Years Eve 2011, after a few drinks!
How they met
We met on a blind date in sunny Scarborough, where we both grew up. We met through a friend of a friend, saw a picture message of each other and decided to meet for a drink. We clicked instantly and literally have not looked back since. We will have been together 7 years this July.
The proposal
The proposal was in Paris, very romantic! Will decided which day he was going to pop the question and had the ring on him all day. That day we went sightseeing round various tourist destinations including the Notredame Cathedral and The Eiffel Tower. He couldn’t find the right moment throughout the day so ended up proposing back in the hotel room at the end of a long day! It was perfect!
Why did you choose your photographer?
Our wedding photographs we very important to us, naturally. We looked at hundreds of websites online and a lot of them looked very much the same. We wanted something a bit different, a bit quirky and something that we could look back on and treasure forever and then we came across Tux and Tales Photography. The pictures on the website were just what we were looking for and our wedding photos have not disappointed, amazing! Well, we think so!
The Dress
My dress was by the designer Allan Hannah and the shoes were Irregular Choice from Schuh. I accesorized with a pearl bracelet and pearl earrings. I also had pearl clips in my hair. My wedding ring was my late mother’s which we had had resized.
The suit
Will’s blue tweed three piece suit was from ASOS. He wore an ivory silk tie and brown suede shoes. The bridesmaid chose their own dresses and shoes from the highstreet.
Theme or colour scheme
I knew I wanted some aubergine coloured calia lillies, so that the bridesmaids matched as much as they could with that. We didn’t want everything very uniform, we wanted the ushers and the bridemaids to be different, to feel comfortable and show off their personalities as they are all so unique. The theme, I suppose, was wintery, crisp, clean and simple!
Flowers
Calia lillies for myself and my bridesmaids.
Cream roses and winter foliage for the buttonholes and in the vases for the tables.
Decoration
We had jam jars filled with either white sand or coffee beans with a lit candle in the middle. There were vases of roses also. The name cards, invitations and order of the day cards were in the style of ‘Keep calm and carry on’
Personal/ DIY touches
Invitations, order of the day, all decorations, name cards, music for the day (on an I pod), fingerprint tree, wishing cards. Most things were done DIY.
Food
Starter: Confit of Duck
Main Course: Slow Roasted Belly Pork with a Red Wine and Wild Mushroom Sauce
Dessert: Pear Poached in Lemon & Wine encassed in a Brandy Snap Basket
In the evening we chose a buffet with a selection of hot and cold food including chicken skewers, chilli, rice, jacket potatoes, mozzerella and tomato salad.
We had two wedding cakes. A three tiered lemon cake with love quotes all around it, and a three tiered ‘cheese’ cake (actual cheese) as I don’t like sponge!
Entertainment
We create a personalised I pod playlist during the day playing our favourite songs. We hired a DJ in the evening at the Grange Hotel. On the inviations we asked for our for our guests to write a song they would like played at the evening reception to try and ensure everybody would get up and dance when they heard ‘their song’. We needent have worried; the dance floor was crammed all evening!
Special moments
Everything! Walking down the aisle, saying our vows to each other, feeling special all day, my dress, our friends, my brother giving me away (I was very proud!), dancing, laughing, crying and having the best day of our lives!
Advice
Take account of and try to remember every moment of the day whilst you are in it, it goes so quickly and you won’t want to forget a moment of it! You have worked so hard planning it all, now it is time for you to relax and enjoy!
