Jennie and Mitchell’s Rustic Chic Ranch Wedding in Colorado by Tippy Jordan

Well Happy Friday everyone and how are you all? Hot?? All I seem to do is come on here and talk about how warm it is! Another 30 degree day here in Sheffiled and our hose pip ban starts today! I am off to an open air Ibiza classical evening tomorrow at Chatsworth, which looks to be a scorcher! what about you? if you are getting married this weekend or going to a wedding, I hope you manage to cope with the heat. Jennie and Mitchell didn’t have to worry about the heat as they chose a fall wedding in October of last year. The weather was kind to them though as they held their outdoor Colorado wedding against a stunning backdrop, with a pastel colour scheme. They had a ‘Rustic Chic’ theme which worked so well with their ranch wedding venue, a super pretty day captured perfectly by Tippy Jordan.

It was a magical time celebrating love with lots of good food, dancing, laughter with our closest friends and family.

Jennie and Mitchell were married on 5th October 2024 at La Joya Dulce Ranch Steamboat, Colorado. ‘Mitch grew up going to the Home Ranch with his family and spent 3 years living out in Steamboat as a ski instructor. He brought me out here when we first started dating and it’s a “happy place” for us both now. We had 80 guests and it took a year and a half to plan.’

How they met
We met at Hope College in Holland, Michigan and have been friends for over 10 years and dated for 3 years before got married.

The proposal
Mitch proposed in Reims, France at the Veuve Clicquot champagne vineyard. We did a champagne tasting tour right before and he was so nervous he kept chugging the champagne glasses. The staff at Veuve gave a bottle of Rose champagne to celebrate and we brought one home to  drink at our wedding. We took our engagement photos in Paris in front of the Effiel Tower.

How did you allocate your budget?
We sat down and talked about what was important to us as a couple. Once we decided to get married in Steamboat,  we then talked about how we can really make this a great experience for our guests and also showcase our personalities. I love pizza so we made sure to have that for our late night snacks and Mitch loves to dance so he picked a local jam band to play.

Where did you splurge and where did you save?
Tommi our wedding planner at LJD was amazing at helping us with our budget. We saved a lot by picking a beautiful venue that came with a lot of decor and infrastructure. They have a “Share the Love” inventory of decor that we had access to. So we saved a lot on decor and we splurged on food & drink and also planning some experiences like fly fishing and custom hats at Steamboat Hatter for our wedding party.

How did you choose your photographer?
I worked with Tippy Jordan– who had done some weddings at La Joya Dulce. I loved her use of light and black & white photography. I really wanted photos that felt like art and Tippy did an amazing job.

The dress
Dress was by Rish. I wanted a more boho look and a dress that would compliment my venue. Bridal Jewelry was by Honey Jewelry a local Grand Rapids MI jeweler who makes the most beautiful, delicate jewelry. Shoes were Jimmy Choo.

The suit and bridesmaids
Mitch’s suit was custom Italian and our bridesmaids dresses were light blue silk from Billy J, an Australian brand.

Theme or colour scheme
We got married in the fall and wanted to pick colours that complimented the season and our surroundings. Light blue, sage green, pale pink and dusty red.

Flowers
Ashley at Mountain Ash Foliage did our flowers and she did an amazing job capturing our vision. We wanted in season local flowers and wild flowers that tied in all our colors. The flowers were one of my favorite parts.

Decoration
We went with rustic chic decor and used a lot of the decor LJD provided plus the flowers.

Food
We had steak and chicken options and had pizza catered for a late night snack.

Wedding cake
A small white wedding cake that we cut but got amazing little hand held desserts from a local bakery, Inclusions.

Entertainment
A local bluegrass band.

Who supplied the stationery?
An Australian small business called Paradise invitations. She handmade the paper and we used light blue ribbon and wax stamps.

Where did you go on your honeymoon?
Bora Bora which was the most amazing trip.

Personal touches
We turned Mitch’s grandmas pin into his bolo tie for the rehearsal dinner.

Special moments
Dancing the right away with our family and friends and the sunset was beautiful that day.

Advice for other couples
Enjoy it! The little details don’t matter as long as you focus on each other. The day goes by so fast so be really intentional about spending time with your spouse and your guests!

Biggest surprise
Just how seamless everything went thanks to Tommi and the La Joya Dulce staff. If anything went wrong I had no idea!
