Today I am taking you back to the good old summer of 2018, when the sun shone, we were winning at football and everything in the world was good! Bring on the wedding of Rosy and George, who picked one of the most delightful days in the year to tie the knot. They did so in rustic farm glory by holding the ‘feasting reception’ on the grounds of Rosy’s parent’s farm. They describe their day as ‘home-made’ and hugely personal. Having the wedding on the farm meant that the food was all sourced from them, the meat and the veg! All cooked to perfection resulting in a true feast for their guests. They had glamping, glitter, fabulous rustic decoration and of course the amazing sunshine. All brought to you by the wonderful Jennifer Jane Photography .
Rosy and George were married on 7th July 2018 at Holy Trinity Church, Burrington, Devon and Higher Hacknell Farm, Burrington, Devon (brides parents farm) ‘I had always dreamed of holding the reception on my parents’ farm, so it only seemed to be natural to get married in the local Church where I was christened and where I have many happy memories from primary school events. We had 96 during the day and roughly another 50 evening guests. I started planning from the moment we got engaged in May, so roughly 13 months.’
How they met
We met the traditional way at a uni UV house party! We have been together ever since…a whole 8 years!
One of our favourite things to do is go for a long walk with our Springer Spaniel Tarka. It was a beautiful sunny day and we had made a plan to walk the Bath Skyline walk and take a picnic. Little did I know George had packed an optimistic bottle of Champagne in anticipation of a positive answer! We settled down to a lovely picnic overlooking bath, whilst our dog chased after his tennis ball. George pretended Tarka had found something and produced a beautiful ring and got down on one knee. I took a moment to realised what was happening as I was completely taken by surprise…but of course I said YES!
How did you allocate your budget?
We looked online and in magazines at various suggested budgets and then decided what aspects we wanted to splash out on!
Where did you splurge and where did you save?
We definitely splurged on the food…even though the organic meat and veg came from the farm this was a large part of the budget as something we both love and what better way to celebrate than with a feast of food. We saved with the venue as it was my parents farm, but put a lot of time, love sweat and tears turning the barn and field into our dream venue.
How did you choose your photographer?
After flicking through the local Bride magazine there was one photographer who really stood out with her natural, romantic looking photos. It was one of the first things we booked. We were lucky as when we first contacted Jennifer Jane she wasn’t available on our original wedding date, but we had to change the date for other reasons and obviously it was meant to be as we got the photographer we wanted.
My dress was from Carina Baverstock Couture in Bradford on Avon, and deigned by Caroline Castigliano, and the veil was made at Carina Baverstock Couture to match the dress. The shoes were from ASOS!
The suit and bridesmaids
The suit was from Jonathan Hawkes in Exeter and the Bridesmaid dresses were from Coast
The flowers were arranged by Emma at Meadowsweet floristry, we were keen to have lots of roses and Ammi, a real countryside meadow bouquet
We did most of the decorations ourselves. We had fun painting signs, putting up festoon lighting, bunting and festival flags. We also hired some extra table decorations including lace runners and candelabras from Blue Fizz Events
We started with a selection of canapé. Then there was a sharing Devon feast celebrating the produce from the farm. A trio of Higher Hacknell Farm organic beef (roast sirloin, charred rare rib with garlic butter and slow cooked brisket, thyme tomatoes, horseradish sauce and red wine jus). This was served with Dauphinois potatoes, mixed seasonal green beans and roasted vegetables. For pudding we had a Pavlova with summer berries. Later we had a cake made by Cakadoodledoo with 3 tiers: Red velvet, Victoria sponge, and carrot cake, decorated with edible flowers and buttercream icing.
We then had evening food! A BBQ which we organised ourselves serving Higher Hacknell Farm Koftas and salads. Then Cheese………
We has a band called Gentlemen of the Road who played a folk set and popular indie tunes. Also a impromptu ‘unplugged’ rendition of Wonderwall when there was a technical glitch, (which none of us noticed!) which actually turned out to be one of the most special and memorable moments!
Who supplied the stationery?
One of my best friends and ‘chief’ Bridesmaid Jasmine Spencer designed all the the stationary
Our wedding was full or personal touches, as it was properly ‘home grown!’ From the food and the venue, to helping design the stationary and painting all the signs, and making the sloe gin!
The highlights were the moments that we spent together with all the buzz going on around us so we could take it all in. So the horse and carriage ride back from the Church to the venue, and as mentioned above the moment during the band playing Wonderwall where the band came down from the stage and all the guests formed a circle and sung along.
Advice for other couples
“Don’t sweat the small stuff”, some things may not always go quite to plan but just enjoy the day as it will fly by, and some of these small glitches may actually make the best memories or moments where you are able to look back and laugh!
