‘Feathers and Skulls’ – Gothic Wedding Inspiration for a Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween everyone and how are you all today? Have you got anything fun planned for today? Dexter is off school for half term, so this morning we are going to a Halloween disco party and then later this afternoon we are having a few of his friends round here to go Trick or Treating! I can’t wait. It’s a massive thing on our cul-de-sac and all the houses get decorated and everyone makes loads of effort. To celebrate Halloween ,I have this Gothic Wedding Halloween special styled shoot for you. The shoot took place last month in a private woodland in Leicestershire and has been sent in by Lorna Boyer Design. The photo shows how weddings don’t just have to be about pastels and splashes of colour. If that isn’t your bag, then dark tones work just as well. Weddings are all about reflecting your own personality, no matter what your bridal style is.

A gothic shoot with lashings of lace, feathers and skulls. Something a bit different, with an unconventional outfit and a touch of drama.

Lorna from Lorna Boyer Design tells us more about the shoot.

When putting this shoot together, I was looking to celebrate the fact that weddings are moving from the traditional, should dos, towards something more personal and unique. Wedding’s should always be a celebration of the couple and I think the trend for shirking tradition and creating something that reflects their personalities is really something to shout about. I also think a more personal or themed wedding takes some of the pressure out of trying to live up to standards or wedding norms, making it a much more exciting planning experience. I had this paradoxical concept in my head of something quite laid back but also striking and dramatic which is why we went for the gothic theme but in the calm and tranquil woodland setting.

I was inspired by people who push the boundaries and challenge tradition. There’s definitely a rising trend of more unconventional weddings and personally I think it’s fantastic that people are becoming more confident in personalising their special day. I love the dark colours and symbolism associated with the gothic subculture, so I was really influenced by this too.
I wanted to show just how far from tradition you can go without losing that wedding feel. There’s some fantastic suppliers out there who can completely customise every detail of your wedding and it’s great to work with them and showcase the beautiful, unusual crafts that are out there. I think we managed to capture that ‘paradoxical’ idea I had envisioned and I absolutely love the results.
